At first I was pegging him for Ravenclaw with the MACHINES, but that might not technically count as a more "intellectual" pursuit? Though I still think it fits.

Possibly Gau.

Yeah I could see him in Ravenclaw as well, but... going through the FFVI party for cunning + ambitious as traits, I kind of think he comes out on top. What with his two-faced political machinations and the whole GERAD thing we just do not speak of.

Slytherin is also the hardest house to interpret...

Apparently (from what I've read; I haven't replayed since I saw this to actually confirm it) when you get Setzer, he comes equipped with a bandana, but if you ever take it off he can never reequip it?

I could see how that would happen, mechanically.

I've done the thing where you don't get Locke so Setzer saves Celes in the finale.

Celes complains that you didn't find Locke!!

... Somehow that is not surprising!

I want to play it one of these days and skip getting guys like Locke and Sabin, just to see how that goes.

It can be fun. I did the three characters only variation, so Celes/Edgar/Setzer, which provides some interesting challenges.

It also makes you realize how helpful Locke is, not because of his worth as a PC, but because he gets you all the best items...

Earlygoings is also really hard without Sabin. But more because he is actually pretty useful at the point where you normally get him.

Yeah those items are definitely pretty great. I think when I play normally he's almost always the last character I manage to find, because I can *never* remember where the hell the friggen phoenix cave is.

And just thinking about trying to fight that stupid monster in the Figaro Castle Engine with only Celes and Edgar makes me cringe. It's not even a matter of levels, it's the whole getting-grabbed and being useless part. Ugh that stupid boss.

Let's also be honest: who wants to go through the Phoenix Cave?? Not only is it a difficult splitparty dungeon half of the treasure chests are empty and I can never remember which ones. I hate it.

That is indeed the tricky part of not having Sabin, yes.

I hated it too! And even going in knowing I am going to get all the treasure in bulk at the end from Locke I inevitably feel cheated when they turn up empty.

Stupid amazing Sabin.
