Dinah Lance | DC Comics
If you have friends like Dinah has friends, you pick a rooftop and you stand on it. Which is exactly what she's been doing, having found a suitable looking corner and staking herself out for the evening.
Someone's got to be around, right?]

Hey, Zee is staying down there.
Hey, guess who doesn't have a bird-line or an expandable cape or flight powers appropriate to her codename?
Dinah gives her a few minutes, and then makes the arduous climb back down.]
You could have come up to me, you know.
no subject
She leans against the soft brown brick wall of the building behind her and offers a slight shrug.] I don't know where the fun is in that, Dinah.
no subject
The fun is in a lot less effort on my part, and I don't look like an idiot for being up there to start with.
no subject
So, gotten a spiel yet? At least skimmed the intro booklet?
no subject
[It's a pretty bad impression, to be honest.]
I skimmed it, but I was hoping someone would give me the Cliff notes. I hate boning up.
no subject
[Big cities with a bunch of villains in them can be like that, can't they? Either way, it can't be as bad as Gotham if Zee's stickin' around. She never stays in that roach motel for long (okay, half roach motel, half five star resort?).]
Blah blah, you're stuck, blah blah, amalgam of New York City, blah blah, hey if you don't have super powers you've got them now, blah blah, try to teleport home and something crappy will likely happen to you.
no subject
[Dinah obviously has no plans to try, but with 'something crappy' as her deterrent, she'd almost be disappointed if Zee hadn't.]
no subject
If you're like Ollie, you spend your nights bouncing from rooftop to rooftop in green tights and a silly little feathered hat, punching people in the face when the situation calls for it, but shooting warning shots in their general direction more often than not. He's definitely around. He just didn't expect her to be and the surprise is pretty evident on his face.]
Hey there, pretty bird. What's a lady like you doing in a place like this?
no subject
She's been trying not to hope too hard to see that ridiculous feathered hat. Now she does, it's all she can do not to run to him. But given how they left things that might not be the best idea.]
Hey, you.
[Grinning, she brushes her hair out of her face to see him properly, but stays where she's standing.]
I don't know what I'm doing here. What do you say you fill me in?
no subject
[Things between them had ended badly, last he checked, and this has the potential to be extremely awkward. Still Ollie can't stop himself from grinning back, she's always had that effect on him. ]
Well, either someone clocked me over the head hard, and you're an incredibly good-looking hallucination. Or, you've just been kidnapped to an alternate reality.
no subject
[That stupid stupid grin of his, it gets her every time. And for a moment she can't help thinking that nothing can be too bad if he's here, cheating bastard or no.]
Assuming it is real, what do I need to know?
no subject
[He takes a step closer to her. It's ostensibly so that they can actually talk and not yell at each other over the wind across the rooftop, but really it's just because he always tries to be as close as possible to her. It's almost a Pavlovian response.]
You get the rundown about the free housing and dog tags?
no subject
And she comes away from the edge of the roof so at least they are a normal conversation's distance.]
And I got a new cell-phone. Which would be much more useful if I had pockets in this thing.
[Maybe she should get a utility belt. Or thigh pouches!]
no subject
Roy had to explain the cell-phone to me. It was about as embarrassing as it sounds.
no subject
And when she's stopped laughing, she looks up at Oliver, focusing on that important piece of information.]
Roy's here?
no subject
[He can't decide whether or not he's happy that Mia has thus far avoided being pulled into crazy alternate universe land, so he elects to decline comment on that entirely.]
Me and Connor got a place in Williamsburg. Roy's still in the city, as far as I know. You know him, gotta have his independence.
no subject
[She smirks as she says it. Of course - of course in all the neighborhoods in not-quite New York he could have picked, Oliver would end up in Williamsburg. Where else would he end up?
She notices the absence of Mia as much as the presence of Connor, but for her right now she's happier to hear of another familiar face. No surprise thought that it's Roy living in Manhattan that catches her attention, and she looks out over the city as if it's going to offer her a flash of red.]
He's on his own?
[No Lian? It must be killing him.]
no subject
Connor's doing well, though. I think he's even got himself a friend.
no subject
But she makes a note to look him up and check on him. No Lian, who know which Titans are here? She'll check on him.
As for Connor...]
A friend or a 'friend?'
[Connor, she's sure, would do well anywhere. He's a force for good in people's lives, but especially Ollie's. However long he's been here, she's glad Connor was here with him. And doubly glad that he's doing well.]
sorry for the delay on this. :c
Friend. I'd tell you that emphasis is full of innuendo, but you know Connor better 'an that, and Kate's a nice girl anyhow. She's an activist in the area, and a great shot. She'd be good for him, if you ask me.
No worries!
Another archer?
[Ollie, are you collecting them again?]
no subject
You betcha. Got a hell of an arm on her, too. Anyway, I think they'd be good together, and Connor even says he might like her. He said it in that way he's got where I think even if he understood what I was really asking, he didn't wanna answer. Like I say, you know that kid. He wants everybody else to talk about their feelings, but if you wanna hear about his you're just SOL.
-- Anyway, this is all more than you probably wanna hear right now. You have questions, right, pretty bird? About the City?
no subject
Dinah turns her head away from him, looking out over the skyline that's both familiar and not in disconcerting ways.]
Just the one question, really. What is going on?
[It's one thing to stay calm in a new environment, but that's easier when you know why you're here and how to get out of it, or at least a direction to run in or someone to punch. This seems pointless enough to be upsetting.]
