buttpatting: it's starting to bother my alpha male thing (stop making me look up at you)

Doppelganger.

[This would, most decidedly, be easier if Hannibal could connect the name of he was speaking to like he seemed to be able to connect his. There was something, obviously, from this man's world that immediately connected him to cannibalism and murder, and it wasn't just his given name rhyming with it. He has no point of reference with this, and it's a maddening thing to have for someone who's so well-equipped in dealing with most of what a human being could ever face on a day-to-day basis.

He holds degrees and titles that others could never hope to achieve without pure talent and determination. And yet, apparently, that might not matter in this place. Even worse, it might serve to damn him more than anything else.

What is he to do?

Hannibal does not bend to the will of another. He does not show vulnerability unless it's needed, and never is really true vulnerability. What is this deputy mayor expecting of him in the face of this accusation? He tells him he will be condemned but then offers himself as, what? Some sort of buffer? No, maybe that's going too far.

Maybe he's just trying to make sure Hannibal knows he's not like those others, those Hannibal could see as enemies (though that would require he see them as on his level, which is...well). Give him information and tell him how to have it as swept under the rug as it could ever be.

Is there an offer here, and an offer being expected in return?

Forgive me for the comment about your stability. This is very...abnormal. Hardly what I expected shopping for produce. To find out that there is another with my name and apparently is linked to— [He frowns, clearly disturbed, and yet he won't refute it. That would be too simple and might seem far too insincere. Too...quick to clarify.] —things such as you've mentioned is. Hardly expected. Completely unheard of, in fact.

Whatever might come up because of this other Hannibal Lecter, I will deal with it as best I can, in whatever way fits the supposed crimes. I will need time, though, to understand it. I'm not sure I'd like to know much more at this point, as it's already very alarming and uncomfortable.
