HEY LOVELY PEOPLE OF CNC

I'm putting together an Amazon order and since the lovely backpack I'm getting automatically qualifies for free shipping, I'm lumping some comics books in with it for extra awesome. I'm definitely getting the first book of XIII, but since I'm trying to build a Bat Collection, I was wondering...

WHAT BATBOOKS WOULD YOU GUYS RECOMMEND? I'm looking primarily at ones that deal with the Joker and how he functions with Batman, so The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum are ones I'm thinking about. But if there's "better" ones that are a better starting point for comics!Bruce please, please let me know?

PS: RUNAWAYS MOVIE. WTF IS THIS. DISCUSS?

holy shit yes Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is pretty much the greatest comic ever written, forget about Batman.

I COULD READ IT FOREVER. I KNOW EVERYONE'S ALL BLAH BLAH BLAH WATCHMEN BUT.

This was what had an effect on me as a kid and a young adult. It's just so damn good and the art is really fantastic for the time, too. The reason people think of it as campy and corny was the TV series and the Wes Craven films (which admittedly, I have a soft spot for, too).

Plus, you'll get Zee and John casually talking about Tantric Sex. A+ guys.

It was one of the first comics I read when I was getting into comics at the end of high school, and I picked up the first tpb on impulse because I used to play with Swamp Thing toys when I was a kid. Best impulse buy I've ever made.

Really, it's a shame that everyone knows about the Sandman when Swamp Thing was the proto-Sandman.

I almost convinced myself to RP Swamp Thing a while back, and then I was like "OH CRAP HE HAS THE SAME SPEECH PATTERN AS CASS, THERE WILL BE SO MANY ELLIPSES" so I didn't.

...okay, okay. Private Casebook. ~For the love of my character~ And to keep up with what is expected of me: Batman and the Phantom Stranger, which actually is a tad better than you might think it would be.

The art's really nice. Coloring's a bit inconsistent, but I can totally appreciate it. Nguyen draws a super-cute Selina, too. *A*

I think those are good books, though you should buy this (http://www.amazon.com/DC-Universe-Stories-Alan-Moore/dp/1401209270/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279505562&sr=1-1) instead of the Killing Joke tpb since it has Killing Joke as well as all of Alan Moore's other DC stories which are worth reading and a much better value than a book that is just a 60-page short story.

Also you should probably get The Dark Knight Returns (http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Knight-Returns-Frank-Miller/dp/1563893428/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279505803&sr=1-1) and Batman: Year One (http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Year-One-Frank-Miller/dp/1401207529/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279505831&sr=1-1) if you want to go ahead and complete the canon of must-read Batman stories.

I think I'll probably get Batman: Year One in this order too, just because. And the more I look at it the more I wonder if I should hold off on The Killing Joke? Hmm.

THE LONG HALLOWEEN, THE LONG HALLOWEEN, THE LONG HALLOWEEN. It...really doesn't deal with Joker that much but I really really like it.

And pfffft the Runaways movie has been in development hell since the dawn of time. If they actually get someone cast, I will be very shocked. That being said, I personally would love for the kids to be a cast of unknowns while the adults being actors that people would recognize.
