ATTEMPT AT OTAKON PLANNING GET
So... who's going to Otakon?
We should attempt a meet up.
Yep, that's all I got. DISCUSS.
ETA: Oh, yeah, I'm going.
ETA 2: Now with slightly less fail since Otakon finally posted the schedule of events. Also for those who actually have time for cosplay, there's also the list of cosplay photoshoots.
I guess depending on how many of us there are, we could either do lunch or if it's a really big crowd just take over a corner of one of the open spaces.
Suggest good times to meet and we can eventually pick one? I'm leaning towards a lunch food run although we may wind up someplace like the buffet in the Bank of America building.
ETA 3: It's looking more like sometime on Saturday, because now I may not be around on Friday [INSERT GRIPING ABOUT ROOMMATE NOT TELLING ME IMPORTANT STUFF TIL IT'S TOO LATE HERE] and everyone's preference seems to be Saturday.
Also, I propose we use Carmine as the meetup mascot. He's more fun than a sign.
I'll actually be on AIM today so look for shinytomato if you want to chat.

Was that an "I'm going" hi or just a generic hi?

No clue about actual times or whether there should be food involved yet (see above updates) but I'm local so I'll probably be relying on the Light Rail all weekend. (Which means no rave. Boo.)
Which is better for you, Friday or Saturday? Trying to edge towards a ballpark idea of a time.

and hoping I've shaken this cold by then. I'll be cosplaying this chick here (http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/28468/), yes, in that outfit. Or lack of outfit.I'll try to go with whatever's good for everyone else, as far as time for meet-ups goes.

Looks like whatever we do will be on Saturday, since there seems to be unanimous votes for that day. I'm probably going to put up a new, more organized Otakon post in a little while to get it up top.
Hope you feel better! Summer colds are awful. D:

I feel obligated to note this: I have had people from the Internetz before say WE SHOULD TTTLY MEETZ OMG and I'm like "I don't know..." and they're all "DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT," and then when I say, "You're looking for a woman in her 30s" they're all... "Ew, but I'm in college and you're old, and that's creepy ,and old people smell funny." I don't know how old anyone is, but I'm probably older than most of you, and I just want to be clear I am not stalking anyone of any age. (I may in fact smell funny, I can lay on no guarantees about that.)
I also want to be very clear that if I am going downtown, I am far more interested in stalking chocolate-hazelnut gelato at Vaccarro's in Little Italy.
WHICH I highly recommend, several blocks though it may be from the Convention Center. Although if it's a lot of people, that's less of a good idea as it can get crowded. Everytime I try to think of a cheap place in the Inner Harbor, my brain laughs at me and tells me to go elsewhere, so I have no idea.
Sorry for the late reply, RL was busy as anything
First off: Whoever wanted to meet up and then flaked on you? Wow, talk about immature. They would have probably had an aneurysm if they went to a Gargoyles convention (technically my first fandom meetup), since the age range of that fandom went from like 8 to 58. I must have gotten lucky on meetups in the past, I've never had that problem or met anyone who cared about that. Also, since I'm organizing the meetup I'm most likely to be accused of stalking anyway, but that's neither here nor there.
And technically I am now in my thirties even though I have the emotional maturity of a 12-year-old. I don't care how old you are unless your age hampers your ability to get around. (e.g. if someone's a minor and needs adult supervision, or somebody's in their 80s I'd be saying OMG STAY HOME BALTIMORE'S LIKE AN OVEN.) Also, it's a crowded anime fan convention in late July, everyone's liable to smell funny,
If we do anything, it will probably be on Saturday from what I'm hearing. I didn't know about the Little Italy film festival - that sounds like a lot of fun!
Hoofing it to Little Italy might not work in part because of the heat and the amount of time it will take to get there and back; I remember the hike to the Courtyard Marriott last year vividly. Gelato is always great motivation, though. It just might be problematic if it takes over an hour just to get there and get back to the convention center. I thought Vaccaro's had a little store in one of the Harborplace pavilions, though; is it still there?
For reasonable food near the convention center, I discovered last year that the nearby Bank of America building had a buffet place on the second floor filled with "real food" (e.g. vegetables, fruit, as well as some really good teriyaki chicken) that had pretty reasonable prices. So that's a possibility.
I may spam the comm with a new post with less fail just to be organized. Sorry for the novel, I'm finally home and have no major interruptions to deal with so I can finish a sentence in one shot.
No problem! RL does that :)
And I agree if it's hot it's not worth the walk to Little Italy. I have done it in the past to get away from the crowds but if the weather next week is going to be like it is right now, then nooo. I'm balking at walking a couple blocks to the grocery store right now, even though I'm out of major staples.
