Evening chaps and chapels, this is olesia, popping in with free cake and questions. You do not get to question the cake.

As most of you know, we have totally passed the limit of tags in spam. As in, we're using 1,310 out of 1,000. Which pretty much sucks for all our new players who don't get to create personalized tags and must settle for claiming any of the various Fresh Prince quotes as their default. On a similar vein: while main comm has yet to run out of tags, as of right now it's sitting at 939/1000.

So, would you guys prefer I go through and delete some several hundred tags in spam just so we can get back our ability to make new ones, or leave it as is? As for main comm: delete some tags for dropped characters who had less than X-number of posts, or wait until we hit the limit and shrug awkwardly at new characters who get to pretend to be Darth Vader?

And for the obligatory crack question, what are your characters' stripper names?

............The fact that I can rename the tags has nothing to do with this question. Promise.

I remember the last time you guys had to pare down the tags in spam you went through and axed anything that had only one use. Is that the plan, stan?

because I have taken to loving tagbombs and probably have increased the usage of some of the really hideous tags lately...

Can you add a *dropped or some similar tag for dropped characters that had less than 5 posts, just so you can find them if you need them but they fall into a catch-all bin?

Cutting out all the one-use tags only gets us down to 1100 tags or so, so even that's not quite enough. Possibly increase that number, or else ask people to choose one "this is my me tag" instead of having twenty (Ian...)

Having a catch-all "Dropped people" tag itself wouldn't be too difficult, though going back through to retag that many entries would be a nightmare for even a dozen people.

I'd vote for maybe deleting some of the spam tags that are never used ever period and waiting a little while and then doing the same for the main communities? Deleting those guys who were dropped like a year ago and only have one post first off.

Most of the "never used period" spam tags are actually the ones our... newer players have tried to make but couldn't, because haha tag limit. And I think there's only like thirty to forty of those.

And yeah, maybe deleting some of the main comm tags for characters that did the one post/drop thing. stick them all under a single tag so if someone wants to hunt the post down, they can at least find it without having to go back through everything?

And I vote deleting some of the used 1/2/3 times tags in spam and the eight personalized tags that X players have. IDK, one tag per person? /offers to let you delete his [ty's tag goes here] or whatever it is

I was noticing there are a few main and log tags that are redundant when I was building stats this time around, from characters with different code names and different incarnations of the same person.

There's also 108 one use tags in the main com from inactive characters, and another 99 with just 2 posts. Very little to worry about having to find again if that were all condensed.

Edit: And I can volunteer some of my spam tags for the chopping.

Yeah, I've been doing my best to merge them when I find them (I think there's at least fifty different characters I've done that for already, my god did we really need eight tags for clark kent), but there's still a ton I haven't done.

And if you don't mind mentioning what those tags are you're willing to lose, I can trim them now. Thank you!

I think most of the really old ones have already been gotten rid of; on the other hand, I don't think anyone wants to volunteer to check to see when each tag was used most recently.

Ah, one of the neat things about having the mod account is the manage tags page can be sorted by use, so if anything, I can pretty easily provide a list of all the tags with, like... one to five uses, and then just ask people what they want me to save.

It's just difficult to figure out which ones are the unused ones and which ones are just new and haven't had a chance to shine, since not even deleting all the one-shots will alleviate the burden, I don't think.

For the main community you could combine some tags. Like there's one for X-23 | N/A. That's the same character as Laura Kinney | X-23

Also there's two Anakin tags, two Victor Mancha tags, two Yuugi Mutou tags, two Anna Milton tags, two Death tags, two Claire Bennet tags, a bunch of Clark Kent tags, two Harry Osborn tags, and two Kitty Pryde ones. I'm sure I missed a ton. It might help to just combine those. It's cool to be able to look up a character and know their verse but it's better to combine them then to run out.

I've been doing some combining over the past few months, though I've obviously not completed that — especially for cases like Yuugi (there are technically three of those tags? maybe, my god this canon why do I love you so).
