I can't imagine what you find pleasant about me if not for my special talents, Diana.

Your personality? [She doesn't like his special talents.]

How generous.

You know, I'd pay a considerable sum to see you use that lasso of yours on a certain green-suited Gothamite.

I'm beginning to think my lasso is one of the most feared weapons in the world.

[identity profile] formidophobia.livejournal.com 2010-11-15 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly one of the most psychologically formidable.

Only for those deep in self-deception.

I meditate every day with my lasso, Dr. Crane. While I admit that even I am not free of self-deception, I know myself better than most.

[identity profile] formidophobia.livejournal.com 2010-11-15 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh.

But no one's brave enough to accept everything they are. The truth--the whole truth, is psychologically devastating. The mind writhes frantic to spin fantasies, construct false certitudes, outright deny with spitting fire anything that so much as breathes counter to its beliefs.

[In a voice tinged with sadness-] That is because no one wants to accept who they truly are, whatever that may be.

[identity profile] formidophobia.livejournal.com 2010-11-15 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Precisely.

Your weapon, then. It's every bit as cruel as mine.

[personal profile] themysciran 2010-11-15 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
The truth is not cruel. It simply is.

[identity profile] formidophobia.livejournal.com 2010-11-15 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Fear simply is.

Nothing natural is cruel or kind - but the employment of truth, the employment of fear...

These things are.

Exposing the truth is kinder in the long run.

[identity profile] formidophobia.livejournal.com 2010-11-15 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Would it keep you up at night if you found out that wasn't so?

[personal profile] themysciran 2010-11-15 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. [It would, but she's completely convinced that she's right.]

Heroes need to struggle to keep the world black and white, though, don't they, my dear.

If a hero does a terrible thing, it must be justified--or overlooked.
themysciran: (★ sick of this)

[personal profile] themysciran 2010-11-15 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I know that the world is not colored in black and white. [If only she can say the same about her colleagues.]

I do not assume things about you, Doctor. I would appreciate it if you would extend me the same courtesy.

[identity profile] formidophobia.livejournal.com 2010-11-15 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Mm, surprising.

It was your terminology, mostly.

I'll try to speak clearer next time. [Their conversations always end up in arguments. Sad.]
