i think he mostly sources their names, in most aspects, since the majority of 'who is zoro based on' seems to come from Zorro for me. I mean, the design is like directly lifted from him and everything. And we know from character designs that Oda is into western popular culture.

I mean, seriously, there's a character who is basically Tim Curry so you know.

I love the story behind Ivanov. How he's voiced by a legit crossdresser/drag queen friend of Oda's.

AFAIK it's names only, yeah...because really, the resemblence between Eustass Kidd in the manga and the real dude is like...........negligible. :D
