what kind of cigarettes does he buy? i.e. does he have a favorite brand, does he always buy the cheap stuff...

He's used to the cheap stuff since that was all his master smoked and well. He literally picked up the guy's bad habit. They're his cigarettes, his favorite brand (which is very cheap) and that's why Baroona smokes them.
