You've always had fine taste in weaponry, Stark. I'll grant you that.

[He walks around, his gun pointed at a certain place on Tony's chest. Eddie is sure to keep his sights at eye level.]

But I'm not really here for pleasantries.

[ He just lifts his eyebrow at the gun. Almost not giving it a second thought. Hiding the nanovirus isn't as important when you're not trying to be human. ]

I expected not. Are you coming to give me a speech about how wrong this is? Perhaps try and write a tell-all about how the great Tony Stark is lying to the public about how dangerous superhumans are? I'd say that would make you the one spouting the... falsehoods.

You can't silence us forever, Tony.

[The sneer is laced with an unmistakable passion. Eddie's trigger finger twitches, and he strives to control himself.

Even if they both know the weapon won't stop something like Tony Stark.]

You can't, you will fall. You'll crumble before them. They'll know the crimes and cruelty you've created in the name of security. It might not be soon, it might not be within the coming of years but oh it will happen.

And it will hurt.

But it doesn't have to be agonizing for everyone, Tony, you can end this now.

Oh yes; I can suddenly have a revelation that this was all wrong, put an end to it, and pretend it didn't happen? The world doesn't work that way, Mr. Nygma. Nothing does. When you start down a path like this, you don't do it for personal glory, or because you want to lord it over everybody. You do it because without someone at the helm, the world's going to fall into disarray.

Who else could make sure that superhumans were controlled? I don't mean to tout my own horn, but nobody does it better than I.

So why don't you just give in? Pull that trigger, Nygma. Let's see how long it takes for my heart to repair and for me to find you?

[Eddie paused, staring at Tony. Staring with a muted sort of fury, an unspoken wrath. He walked right up to the other man, his toes knocking the base of the desk.

And slammed down the gun, flat against the wood.]

I'm not a criminal. And I here I was, hoping you could say the same.

[ There's a serene sort of knowing smile on his face when he leans back in his chair. He doesn't need to take the gun; and they both know it. It's more of an amusement to him. ]

Oh, but I've broken no law. In fact, the government asked me to do this. How could I say no to serving my country? They've certainly needed the help, and I was the Secretary of Defense. I think being the Director will be a nice promotion.

Broken no law? Just because you've got Congress in you back pocket doesn't mean the human rights activists are turning a blind eye. The ones who have yet to disappear, at any rate.

[He leans in, hands splayed over the desk, coming close. Despite the domino mask worn, his frustration wasn't hidden.]

You'll be a Director of an empty set soon, Stark.

[ He leans forward slightly, his lips twitching in almost!amusement. ]

You mean the kids that left PETA for a new cause? They're no threat. They just wanted a cause to be involved with, and if they start getting a little bit more dangerous? Well, it's awfully dangerous protesting. You know how the police get.

[ EYEROLL... ]

Face it, Nygma. You don't have anything, and you won't for some time.
