Sometimes you can tell they're trying

but then after the Revenge Zombies arc (where Ruka explodes and rides lions and uses her dragon to kill a dude and is the only dude to actually die for real and not because they waltzed happily into the afterlife)

it's just
The Terminator. EVERYONE IS A ROBOT. TIME TRAVELING ROBOTS. SOMETIMES THEY ARE A ROBOT MADE OF ROBOTS.
THE FINAL BOSS IS A DUDE WHO PERFORMED SURGERY ON HIMSELF TO COSPLAY THE MAIN CHARACTER. ALSO HE WAS PART ROBOT???

Oh, and apparently in the manga version, Ruka's a villain??? Possibly just mindraped into it but yeah for no explicable reason she is introduced as a PLAYER-KILLER which are serious business in this universe apparently
