So instead of being housebound and dependent on Rua to take care of her, Ruka would have mentally grown up in The World of Duel Monster Spirits, a place full of happy-go-lucky monsters, as their SOLE DEFENDER against the human world and the evil hearts that might invade the spirit world. Awesome! So her friends would be MAGICIANS and LIONS and DRAGONS and TALKING JELLY BEANS.
So porting to THE HIVE would have been her wake-up, so all that ambiguous physical frailty is a result of hasn't been aware of her body in almost a decade. Awesome! She would have arrived not trusting people at all, and be serious in a different sort of way. Far less down on herself, more fiercely protective of those falling under the definition of monster, but as to how those three years would have gone... who knows?
