Imagine a world just like the one in which the City resides, except everything is ever so slightly...off. One degree, one minor shift in reality, that alters everything. Changes lives, destroys cities, sets heroes down the path of villains and vice versa.

This is that world.

In short, this meme is a lead-up to an open RP, much like C&C2020. But unlike that setting, C&C-2 is in the present day on a parallel version of the C&Cverse. The AI Decima operates the Prisoner, which brings in people (the imPrisoned) from worlds that are like that of their counterparts stuck in the C&C setting, but just off by one major change in their personal history.

So, y'know, this is an alternate universe meme with setting fluff basically.

Oh right, and everyone lives in the HIVE. And the City is a smoking nuclear crater. And crime is rampant enough to make the US one gigantic lawless clusterfuck. It's not a pleasant reality if you're not an evil jerk.

NOW THAT I'VE GOT THE SET UP OUT OF THE WAY, go nuts! AU up your characters! Establish how their CR would change when instead of spending three years as a hero stuck in not-New York they spent three years as a supervillain stuck in not-LA. The open RP will be this Saturday so plenty of time for everyone to get around to this!

Yeah so, Max did still determine Terry's secret identity, but his identity was, you know, a bad guy, but bad the way Owlman is - saying he's bringing order through tyranny, etc. She didn't object, because part of her thought well what if it works huh, and through a series of him manipulating her and her willingly offering her services she became a tech support part of the team, though she was kept consistently very far out of the loop and basically just used by them.

In such a world, when she came through to the Hive she didn't really know what to do. Owlfamily doesn't exist at all (at least in her universe) so Owlwoman never even occurred to her, but she slowly returned to her old job, anonymously offering her tech support services to the people who will advance her and her old Owlman's mission (keeping everyone happy through complete control) and building up an intelligence network. Since she's only been here about four months she's still not super set up, but she's well on her way to essentially being a tyrannical Oracle.

This does mean that she sort of toes the line - if your character is one of the good guys but she thinks you can be of use in taking down a bad guy who threatens her mission, or she thinks she can manipulate you into advances her agenda, she'll help you. She tends to remain completely anonymous, but occasionally uses two separate identities - Nyx when contacting bad guys, Delphi when contacting good ones.

Starting with AUing from the canon...

● Ruka would be from the manga no, uhm. Probably would have never woken up from her coma! Whoops. So instead of being housebound and dependent on Rua to take care of her, Ruka would have mentally grown up in The World of Duel Monster Spirits, a place full of happy-go-lucky monsters, as their SOLE DEFENDER against the human world and the evil hearts that might invade the spirit world. Awesome! So her friends would be MAGICIANS and LIONS and DRAGONS and TALKING JELLY BEANS.

So porting to THE HIVE would have been her wake-up, so all that ambiguous physical frailty is a result of hasn't been aware of her body in almost a decade. Awesome! She would have arrived not trusting people at all, and be serious in a different sort of way. Far less down on herself, more fiercely protective of those falling under the definition of monster, but as to how those three years would have gone... who knows?

Ever hear tell of those dangerous mutants that everyone hates and fears, the ones with so much power who attack normal people, try to hurt them and bring down their society, and establish the unquestioned superiority of mutantkind?

Julian Keller is one of them. Idealistic and anarchical, he hates the established human government, blaming human-built weaponry in the form of the mutant-killing sentinels for the loss of his hands. To replace his hands, he’s had his arms supplemented with cybernetic implants and advanced metal gauntlets, which his telekinesis controls. He’s as good with these hands as if they were natural, having by necessity gained a vastly improved fine motor control over his powers. ‘Normal’ people are meaningless to him. People only have value when they have powers, and that makes the City the perfect place for him. He doesn’t just want to cause trouble here. He wants to start riots, turn people against each other, make them question their beliefs, and make them afraid of him and others like him. That’s the only way he’ll get the respect he’s always deserved.

And people have good reason to be afraid. Julian’s telekinesis is a force to be reckoned with, and he doesn’t make a lot of effort to
restrain it. He doesn’t just throw up a shield against his enemies bullets, or push them away from him. He brings his powers down on them with all the concussive force he can muster. He crushes and breaks them with a battering ram of unbridled green energy, and with every piece of destruction he feels more powerful and more invincible. He has absolutely no qualms about killing with his powers, seeing ordinary weapons as unnecessary and viewing no force as powerful as the one his mind controls. People who stand in his way are smashed out of it.

He’s a terrorist who never needed to use a bomb. His goals are utterly anarchical, aiming for the abolition of the flatscan human government so that homo superior can take charge. He is his own heaviest hitter, and the only people he feels any allegiance to are other mutants who are sympathetic to the same cause. He will use any means to advance his cause, and except on occasions where he teams up with a like-minded individual, he works alone.

The Monster in the Darkness

The Monster is still pretty neutral and out-for-himself, except instead of being a sweet little monster who wants out of the darkness, he's a selfish jerk who never wants to leave it.

Let's just say that instead of being terrible at being a monster, Monster was actually good at being a monster back home. So he was still with Team Evil, but Xykon and Redcloak actually succeeded in creating a terror. He never met O-Chul, he never had tea parties.

But sometimes, when he's done with being a jerk, when he's really sad or really happy, there's a glimpse of mercy and kindness.

• Still one of the longest-lasting prisoners in the dimension, he'll be one to fear, given Scarab's motive to groom the planet for slavery and destruction. There's no real man-to-man to factor in here; Jaime has absolutely no say and lost the will to fight back years ago.
• In fact, who's to say Jaime's still even alive in there? Scarab's got the power to move its host against his will...
• Shit will probably get realer once the Negotiator hits the scene, which will give Scarab someone to work under.

SOLDIER BLUE

• His awakening on Ganymede results in some major retaliation, killing hospital staff right at the getgo and fleeing capture on his own.
• He'll spend a great deal of time on the run, gradually growing in tune with his power and using it against his attackers. He became especially skilled with manipulating minds and stopping hearts.
• His aggression against mankind will continue to be in play in HIVE, where those who threaten him face a very real chance of insta-death. So long as he's left alone, he keeps to himself until he needs something.

ZELGADIS

• Never gets around to being buddy-buddy with Lina and crew. In fact, he gets his ass soundly kicked and is yoinked to HIVE immediately thereafter.
• Bitter, pressed bitch. Still desperate for that cure, willing to do nasty things to get it. Screw friends and happiness; that's all backburnered until he's fleshy again.
• Which won't happen, so that sucks. Guess who's spending a miserable existence getting played by one lying s.o.b. to the next, doing dirty work on the promise of clues to his cure? THIS GUY.

STEVE

• Never gets Mark's soul embedded in his databanks, fails to have that sparkly, happyhappy personality. So he's basically just a data-collecting android.
• But lbr this guy won't survive 10 minutes in HIVE anyway so why write this

There isn't much that could change with the Horcrux itself (maybe Harry could have gotten it first or kept it) and just "never made the Horcrux" doesn't change much either, so let's go earlier. :)


and this got a little too long so here's the tl;dr version:

-Merope Gaunt lived and raised Tom until she died when he was eleven
-he went off opened the Chamber and made Horcruxes and became Voldemort anyway
-Voldemort actually knew messing with love was freaking dangerous so he didn't try to kill Harry after killing his parents and therefore didn't become spirit-Voldy
-the diary horcrux still ended up at Hogwarts and was working with Voldemort the whole time
-they still want to kill Harry and it was in the plans when diary-Tom got dragged to the HIVE

Tom would thrive in the HIVE, ngl. At first, he would have kept a low profile, but that would have lasted maybe a month. As soon as he figured out he'd be able to get farther by just being himself, it would be hello Lord Voldemort. He wouldn't go out terrorizing anyone just for the fun of it or anything, but he wouldn't be nice, polite, prefect Tom Riddle. Nope.

He'd still keep a few things secret. Like the Horcruxes. And this Tom would have a slight inferiority complex about Voldemort, from being ordered around by him for a year, so that on top of his desire to keep his Horcruxes secret would mean he'd been even less likely to tell anyone he was one. But it's also one reason he's out there being Voldemort instead of pretending not to be.

He wouldn't be keeping his belief that powered individuals should reign over non-powered individuals secret though. And that magic-users should be the elite. There's been a few mysterious deaths and disappearances of civilians who think otherwise since he showed up.

Sherlock Holmes got bored.

The world simply didn't offer enough. No matter how many cases he solved, no matter how many murderers found, no matter how many kidnappings foiled, none of them were good enough. The boredom crept upon him like a dark black shadow, growing his mind daily until he could think of little else. The perfect crime. The perfect solution. He marveled, constantly, about the complete stupidity of the police force - of the world - locked in the lonely darkness of his own mind.

Nothing was good enough. No criminal smart enough.

He just had to do it himself.

The first time Sherlock killed a man, it was like a revelation. He could feel the last, shaky breath leave him victim beneath his finger tips, watched the blood pool out of him evenly. It was the absolute, complete control that appealed to him most, and he made certain it was just so completely clever there was no possible way his work would go unappreciated.

But it did.

Scotland Yard could barely see straight, even after he had left them basically a trail to the murder, they never even could find the body. Even after anonymous tips.

The loneliness of his genius was made even worse.

Each murder more clever, each more lonely. It was enough to drive a consulting detective mad. What was the point, if they never even found the body upon which to consult him? If he never got to cleverly untangle every thread he left himself, if he never got to force the Yard to run in circles around it. They weren't even smart enough to find them.

But then, he met a man.

A doctor. An ex army doctor, to be precise. With a steady hand and a steady heart and the words 'that was amazing' on the corner of his lips.

Sherlock wanted, from almost the instant he met the man, to unveil the dark, perfect, lonely world he created. Wanted to hear that praise for his true accomplishments, wanted to share that moment of complete control, of complete rightness. He could sense a mirrored need, from the man. A mirrored darkness.

And he was determined to exploit it.

The first time they killed a man together was the moment Sherlock knew perfection.

The first time John wrote about it, the trill of infamy.

A match made in hell.

In this 'verse, Terezi never looked into Vriska's future before their final confrontation, and as a result let her go instead of stabbing her in the back.

She was imPrisoned in the Hive not long after that...but not before being attacked by Jack Noir and experiencing a death that wasn't nearly quick enough...especially since Karkat was dying right next to her.

As a result of that and of being thrown into such a nasty environment immediately after instead of a nice calm dream bubble, Terezi is seriously bitter and not very trusting. In fact, sometimes she goes out of her way to sabotage people, especially if a peek into their future reveals that she'll benefit from the action.

After all, refusing to stab someone in the back already massively screwed her over once. Why take the chance again when it's practically a fight to survive in the Hive anyway? Sheesh, it's like she never left Alternia at all.

This version of the Major is from a universe where his genius extended to the realms of occult science and dark magics- not only was he the Last Battalion's commander, he was also its head researcher. Once he was Prisoned, his expertise allowed him to duplicate Millennium's artificial vampire research with ease. And wouldn't you know it, there are always so many people willing to do terrible things in exchange for the illusion of eternal life...

Now the Major has bases throughout the country and spies in every continent. His vampire and human minions number in the thousands. Much like her ancestor, Doc Scratch plucked Aradia out of the void and educated her. There's ever so much to learn about time, and ever so much time to do the learning in. But if she lands in a new city with no roadmap and no restrictions, and some silly little aliens try and tell her what to do, Aradia is going to break some things.

Because Aradia is very much alive.

Kim Bauer is dead. Everyone is screwed.

In this AU Jack Bauer lost his daughter as well as his wife in the same day, which basically snapped him like a dry twig. Ordinarily this would have driven him to suicide, but Decima Prisoned him around Season 2 of his canon. Finding himself in a new world with his country falling apart and surrounded by people needing killing, Jack found a new purpose. He wouldn't work for the government any more, he wouldn't need to worry about breaking any rules. He would do whatever he felt needed doing, whenever he felt like it, however he felt like it. Basically, Jack has turned into a fascist death-seeking Punisher ripoff.

Since he was Ported in, he has been on a cross-country road trip of murder, torture, and explosions, killing whoever he decides deserves it with whatever happens to be handy. He works alone, completely unwilling to trust anyone or anything, although sometimes he will scream at a local official to do things his way OR ELSE ['his way' involves very few rights and freedoms].

If anyone asks, he claims he's trying to save his country, to bring some kind of justice back to America by forcing terror upon its evildoers. This is bullshit. Jack Bauer has nothing to live for or fight for. He is trying to get himself killed as violently and satisfyingly as he can, and to take as many 'bad guys' with him as humanly possible.

Erik's life progressed exactly the same, even up to the point that he met Charles Xavier. The key difference was in Charles himself. Specifically, Charles' idealism regarding humans had been fading for many years. Rather than objecting to Erik's insistence that mutants were superior, Charles found himself agreeing with him. Rather than debating the matter, they found themselves bouncing ideas off of each other, brainstorming as to how mutants could claim their place as the superior race.

On the beach in Cuba, Erik held the missiles suspended mid-air, pointed toward the ships who had fired them. No words were exchanged, just a small nod of approval from Charles.

By the time that they are Ported in, they have effectively declared war against the humans of their own world. After taking time to orient themselves, they have picked up where they left off in their goal to rule over a race that has been deemed inferior and too incompetent to govern themselves, while ridding the world of any humans foolish enough to get in their way without a second thought.
