C&C Death Toll! Because I am morbid

Katurian's tears got me wondering: it has now been over three years since the Porter was activated, and that time has not been a lot of fun for a lot of people in the Cityverse. Reality-warping, being trapped in their worst nightmares, supervillain murders, cities being destroyed, wars over Porter technology- the people of this Earth have had to put up with a lot.

How many NPC lives have been ruined by Import-related shenanigans? How many have your characters negatively impacted somehow?

The focus here is on innocents more than jailed criminals. I'm curious to see if we can get a rough estimate by just throwing in examples of game events and character impacts on the hapless NPCs around them. Example:

-The game started shortly after the (still unexplained?) disappearance of the original police force, half of which later came back zombified. That's maybe thirty thousand gone right there.
-Jack Bauer has killed 41 people during his time in the Cityverse, but four of those occupy a grey area due to being undead, and one of them was an Import who came back. Also they've all been bad guys!
-The Major caused 114 deaths in Operation Gotterdammerung, and has gotten well over a hundred of his own minions killed in his various schemes. The raid on the HIVE caused a large amount of death and destruction, and the people he has turned into vampires are technically dead as well. The watchman killed in the blood bank raid is on his head also.

This is not a meme or an effort to establish firm game canon, just a bit of curiosity seeking to quantify Katurian's sorrow. Answer as much or as little as you like, and let's see what we come up with!

Two NPC deaths due to Soldier Blue trying to intervene in an armed mugging and failing
One due to my version Deadpool kicking a dude into a river once (he had floaties but I don't think it helped because it was the dead of winter), unless someone rescued him I forget


I play too many good guys so I don't really think there's many more than that from my end

I like to imagine that Deadpool's collection of 36.5 kneecapped criminals is still out there somewhere, trying to carry on with their lives. Maybe they've formed a support group.

WELL, FOR MY CHARACTERS...

Cavil and GLaDOS killed an absurd number of people (like 400?) when they crashed an unstable gasoline tanker into a crowded neighborhood. (The trunk exploded everywhere, basically.)

Katurian went back in time and helped someone die in 1990, effectively erasing their existence for the last twenty years. He also killed a Vulcanus fighter.

And Dilandau killed someone on camera, that loser.

Basically, the native citizens deserve their tears.

OH YES, and Cavil also slaughtered like a dozen government officials because Osborn asked him to.

I was only counting NPC carnage, but yes. c': Rather, I don't think he ever killed Saitou but he tortured the hell out of him once. With Kiryu, he killed him once (for ~science~) and then deliberately got him caught in the previously mentioned truck explosion (for ~revenge~).

Thaaaat was it. God, see how terrible my memory is these days? I couldn't even remember whether it was Saitou or Kiryu who got murdered more than once.

It was really just a torturing and killing threeway. Understandable. Also, it was almost three years ago.

Saitou did indirectly die from Cavil's torture, granted - Kiryu mercy killed him like a champion. :c

Okay, so Eddie has masterminded the deaths of a LOT of NPCs who were sort of just... Well, commodities to further his grander schemes. The following events have been incidents where NPCs have died because of his mechanisms.

- Provoking Carnage to attack Times Square
- Creating local disasters for Norman's Avengers to "save"
- That building block that exploded thanks to his Thunderbolts around the mayoral election year, killing political contender Bendis
- Norman's downfall at Times Square (whatever Eddie hates Times Square)
- Arranging and escorting Eridan to Dolvania for some population control

So Eddie's indirectly responsible for the deaths of 80-110 people, I'll have to run facts with Kirsten on how many NPCs Eridan killed last year.

He's not really one to get his hands dirty.

Between Eddie, the Joker's nuke blowout, Eddie again, and some other stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting, Times Square could be worth a post just by itself.

As C&C goes on, Times Square becomes a deserted zone visited only by thrill-seekers and the superstitious. The locals whisper that it is a haunted place, that there are rumours of an 'Import curse' that regularly visits fire and destruction without warning. Kids dare each other to brave the Square and bring back proof that they actually went.

It seems like Central Park is a popular target too, though I don't know how many actual deaths occurred there.

Has anyone attacked the Statue of Liberty yet? If not, I call dibs.

Oh yeah everything goes down at Central Park, be it concerts or demon invasions. 'A walk in the Park' has probably entered City parlance as an extreme sport by now.

Shockingly, I'm pretty sure Lady Liberty has been relatively unscathed so far. That should change!

As far as I know, none of my guys have killed anyone who wasn't a zombie, vampire, or overseas.

I mean sure Geddoe's killed a handful of people (Mexico and Greenland), but the majority of his kills have been the undead - the Major's vampires and zombified Black Tear minions. OH WAIT yeah I'm smart he killed Zelgadis. But Zel came back.

Sanji hasn't actually killed anyone not a zombie. He beat the everloving crap out of some Caribbean/South American drug cartels and pirates though. Obliterated Fakethulhu's demons. That sort of thing. He didn't kill anyone in the War of Four Walls.

Alastair's a good boy and only takes souls, he doesn't kill. As much as he really wanted to stake Spike.

Geddoe also chopped up a bunch of guys trying to kill Jack during the Four Walls thing, right? (Jack's still grateful for that btw)

Well, anyone he hit with lightning wasn't killed outright. Just incapacitated. I don't know that he actually slaughtered anyone. He tends not to use lethal force if he expects his foe is not well-trained in the use of any weapon.

But if any of them were outright trying to kill, yes, he did kill them back.

Deadshot is a hired gun, but none of the people he's killed are innocents. He's killed a good handful of jerks, though.

I think John McClane killed a few assholes in his time, too.

Dr. Mid-Nite opened the doors of the medical clinic to natives as well.

Uhhhh wow, I think Tony has not been responsible for any (or many) NPC deaths! Other than grunts in fights and the like, which he's been in a lot of those. He killed so many HIVE grunts back in the day! But mostly he just prefers PCs for all his morally ambiguous deeds c:

Mitch, Jack, and Ozzie all have clean hands!

But uh, Illidan did pretty much directly kill half of his crabhammers, and the other half got killed in the great cthulhu raid..... and he killed some scourge zombies during that plot!

Oh yeah I remember how Tony's team was in the HIVE's lab and the whole thread was like /ADVANCES TO VICTORY OVER CARPET OF DEAD HIVE GOONS

Tom has killed one NPC so far, and he framed her husband for it. So that's a grand total of two lives effectively ruined.

And Kiryu...I don't even know, because he has a habit of going out and killing people during those events that call for it (HIVE invasions, cop zombies, etc.). He's never actually killed any NPCs outside of such events, though. So idk if they would even count?

LUST HAD KILLED ABOUT 40 NPCS OVER THE COURSE OF HER PRESENCE IN THE GAME BUT THEN SHE AND RA'S AL GHUL DESTROYED A CITY IN SAVOLETTA AND I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVED THERE, GABBIE HELP ME OUT

ANYWAY THE POINT IS SHE'S HELPED TO RUIN THE LIVES OF PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE IN DESCHANELLES, AND IT WAS ALMOST ENTIRELY BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT THIS ONE DUDE WITH BEARDFANGS WOULD MAKE A GOOD ALLY. HOW CLASSY. to be fair, though, pretty much all the other npc dudes she killed were with knives back in the day! basically what i'm saying is lust holds off on actually killing people unless she thinks that she can kill two birds with one stone and a.) kill some motherfuckers and b.) endear herself to some person she wants stuff from! AND THAT'S RUINED A LOT OF NPC LIVES.

also i have absolutely no idea how many people riful ate when she was in the city, but it was totally over 100.

Not gonna lie the sad fate of Deschanelles was part of what got me wondering about this stuff

ABSOLUTELY. I saw that log and was like 'Cause of entire city's death: two supervillains were on a date bored. Man it sucks to be an ordinary Cityverse human sometimes.' Katurian breaking down over stuff like this clinched it for me.

basically the takeaway message here is that lust should just never date anyone, ever, because every time she does the death toll is like 50.

kanaya went on a frenzy for blood during the alignment swap plot in november
while the log only included five imPorts she'd attacked, it's incredibly possible that she'd hunted some npcs as well to sustain herself over those three days

i don't have a solid number really (somewhere around ten maybe?), but none of them would've been killed, just robbed of a pint or so and left bandaged

then of course there's anyone who might've died as a result of alex turning the whole city into children
he tried to minimize it with his timing but i wouldn't be surprised if there were some casualties anyway?

Bond has quite a few deaths on his hands, definitely a good chunk of drug and weapons dealers in his time although he's calmed down on that now.

Also Major's men when getting caught and then escaping from the mansion.

Also I vaguely remember him with guns for several plots.

None of my dudes have killed anyone in the City so far! Messed people's days up, ruined ATM machines, summoned monsters in TImes Square, but technically no one has died.

There's probably quite of bit of shoplifting and casual robbery between them, since none of them except the Monster particularly like paying for things. But deaths? Nope.
