IT HAPPENS. but to no one's surprise, Eridan is really a mixed bag for Ruka! She can't count points on hands, since even an octopus doesn't have enough of them to carry everything.

Because he came in at the relative beginning of the Homestuck flood and has stuck around almost uninterrupted since then (a whole year+!!), he's fallen into what Ruka considers STABLE TERRITORY.

Which is ... probably pretty ironic considering the rest of him.

But all that plus the fact he actually likes her and listens to her and seems to appreciate her dumb gestures and worries is validating to her in a lot of ways! In most of her other (obviously not romantic) relationships, she's significantly younger than the other party, so her concerns/etc tend to get dismissed or played down. That those are the things that usually make Eridan pause and get all... wibbly or crying on a subway makes her feel important.

Plus he is way cute and his wwarble is adorable, shut up.

And while she does feel a little uncertain about what to do when he gets into his stupid network fights with the other trolls, she tends to shove it off like, well, he's not a jerk to HER, and those guys are pretty universally assholes ANYWAY.

Yes, he's a hipster douchebag, but he's HER hipster douchebag.
