Random question brought about by a discussion on plurk to put before the masses. What kind of aids have you created to assist you with playing your characters?
Relationship charts?
Lists of specific information your character uses?
Folders of links to wikipedia articles?
What do you use? Are they helpful or do you forget they're there?

I am a bit crazy and use excel to create color coded CR charts with everyone my characters have ever talked to. I've got three, one for each character. It includes links to all of their conversations and a color coding of what the character felt during/after the conversation. So bascially lots of red means 'I hate you so much' and lots of blue means 'you are so awesome never leave me.'
I would take a screencap of the crazy but it's on the computer that is broken right now. I should really move it to google docs.
Edit: Things I forgot
Kaiba has posts for both information about KaibaLand and his in-city deck"
I also add everything I post in to my memories so I have a list to refer to later.

I did just install a little HTML copy/paste app, so I have a lot of my formatting tags easy.
But I am a lazy player and go mostly by memory. I think having a thread tracker, and some sort of IC notes, to keep track of what my characters would and wouldn't know, would be helpful, because I've wished I had done that occasionally! But no, I just have to make do with gmail search.

Loads and loads of wikipedia. It has pages for every single day of the year, leap year, zodiac, most holidays, etc. I also use a handful of other sites ( here, here, here, and here and this one is new - some are more useful than others). I also have a couple things noted, like the Cape and Cowl Birthday Chart and a "DC Universe Calendar.
I also used to take notes on a word doc of dates people told him but it hasn't been updated in a while (I .... kinda memorize most of that), the Trollwall is out of date, and I updated the post I keep for upcoming dates today!
not that i'm obsessive or anything
THE REST OF MY DUDES
I have a borrowed copy of D&D 3.5 that I can check because I'm not that familiar with D&D, but I also google D&D stuff occasionally. Someone is keeping track of each and every strip he is in, and they keep it updated too! It's helpful, though if I'm looking for a particular strip I usually have to guess which one it is. There's also a speculation thread that I pointedly DON'T check in terms of speculation, but it does keep track of what's known/not known about Monster, though I haven't visited it in a while.
Every once in a while I try to keep track of everybody he's talked to, but that's like, half the game at this point so.
Captain Cold
...Not a lot? I use Comic Vine to keep track of his canon because he's been in loads but mostly I just google things. :L He's also new SO THERE.
Negotiator NOT A THING... I did personally scan almost every single panel appearance he's in to make icons so I can fact check pretty easily (except for the part where they're like, 600 dpi because my scanner makes horrible stripes at 300 dpi SO THEY TAKE FOREVER TO LOAD...) - I also use various wikis to keep track of DC space stuff, heh.

I have some wikipedia articles and website links, but they're mostly on locations or historical events, etc. Weird little bits of things that I'd rather not just pull out of the blue. I already own books on sleight of hand, stage illusions, the history of magic, and her various ancestors, but I have found myself reading more about that sort of thing for the sake of playing her.

Alastair just has a post in his journal with his Duel Monsters deck info. Geddoe has nothing. Does bookmarking the One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh wikis count?

The YGO Wikia's only use for me is card information and Astral's observations. Outside of that drenched in inconsistencies.
When I played Dark Yugi, Wikipedia was my best friend for games I didn't know. My other, arguably more, best friend was my girlfriend's rich, rich Egyptology brain.

The Major: Hellsing OVAs both online and downloaded, online manga scanlations, and two hard copy manga volumes. I hit up historical sites and wikis a lot when I need period or linguistic information for him.
Jack: Two of my favourite seasons on DVD, plus copious reliance on the 24 wiki. I also keep a running tally of who he's killed in C&C, as well as reference posts for the cops and Zero's Children.

Oh, I also keep track of Peter's wardrobe on polyvore, but it doesn't get that much use because ... he's not a snappy dresser. (This reminds me I should go "shopping" for him again soon.)

-I have Mitchell's VOICE tag in a privated entry in his journal, as well as a text shortcut on my phone! (spoilers, the tag is "thevoice")
-I also have my action tag mapped to my phone too! I'm lazy and hate coding HTML on my phone. :/
-I keep a roster of Tony's cars and apartment/StarkTech addresses on his journal!
-I don't really keep issues indexed or anything. I just go hunting if I need something! I have a pretty decent memory for comic locations on the list on my harddrive ( but not numbers) so I can hunt them down pretty easily
-I do keep a list of random facts on Mitchell though, so I don't forget that he's lactose intolerant
-uh
Yeah that's it I don't keep much on hand except for google and Wikipedia

... basically what helps me with Nero is music.
I am not kidding and it's ridiculous. I see one character wearing headphones in one
longasscutscene and everything went down the drain. There're quite a bit of inspiration and headcanon posts but that's just it and it's probably just making him worse but w/e, considering CAPCOM isn't any better.

also idk if this counts but if i ever forget anything about ultspidey canon i just go BAKHU SAVE ME and he usually does.
carol, on the other hand, i have a folder of wiki bookmarks for. it's mostly stuff relating to the air force/cia as i don't know much about either of them. i've... also got a tumblr blog that i'm using to store my thoughts as i do a giant canon review from start to finish. because there is a loooot of canon for carol and i sometimes go ahhhhh when did this happen so with any luck it'll help keep me more organized.

uh i reread her stupid history with the pretty pictures sometimes. and she has a cr chart? and a visuality that helps remind me of ~who she really is~ and i would periodically reread canon if it wasn't oddly being phased offline?? IDK i can't find it anywhere nowadays..........
scathach
more stupid info, a real myth about her, WEAPONS!!, cr chart that is severely lacking, her prayer, visuality. and i also have all five of the alchemyst books in pdf form, and both side-stories ("the death of joan of arc" and "billy the kid and the vampyres of vegas") as pdf's. and i also have physical copies of all five books (the side-stories were only released as e-books).
gemma
app, some fics, a write-up of victorian london, some of her visions, cr chart, visuality, one of the most traumatic moments of her life. and, of course, i have both physical and digital copies of all three books.
molly
app & visuality. and i have every episode of sherlock and some commentaries on my computer. and i follow loo brealey on twitter heh.
rikku
app, cr chart, visuality. and obviously i own both final fantasy x and final fantasy x-2, and both of the walkthroughs. i also cosplayed her once.
SO... YEAH I FEEL LIKE THIS MAY BE PRETTY STANDARD STUFF????
OH and i have playlists on my ipod for all five of them.

For Stein I have a text document with some pertinent quotes from the anime concerning his personality/philosophies/hobbies/etc. There are also some pages lurking in my general bookmarks about things like vivisection and medicine and things like that...
And for Czeslaw I just have the light novel translations bookmarked, heh. I reread them every once and a while so I don't forget things. When I played him from the 1930s I also had a few pages bookmarked concerning that time period, like a collection of slang terms from the 30s and the wikipedia page on movies released in the 1920s. And I also keep a text document with a few relevant quotes from both the anime and the light novels on hand for him.
One of these days I will make actual transcripts for Stein and Czeslaw....one of these days.

i also have a polyvore which i use every now and then. i loaded it with a bunch of vintage suits for vic, but i really only started using it more when i picked up kanaya (i currently have a project i'm working on for her in the most recent sets but it's not finished yet)
other than that, i mostly work from memory. i'm really awful at maintaining cr charts and things
everything i had bookmarked is kind of lost atm since i just recently switch computers

I think Clint's journal probably has the most resources right now--a basic canon list, his app slightly rewritten to be more of an info post, and etc. I also recently starting going back through all of his canon and posting it on a blog, because I want to start keeping a better timeline and track of artists/writers/relationships. I have ambitions of doing this for all my characters, but it's slow going.
I also have a bookmark folder of links, and a doc folder of notes. For Clint I have chatlogs of this long conversation I had with a couple of my friends who know archery better that I do, so they gave me a lot of good info with regards to pull weights and guards and the like. For Damian, I've looked up medical stuff a lot, like the amount of time it takes for various injuries to heal! Donna's document has a lot of fashion references, and also a vague timeline of her life that will someday be updated with issue numbers and added to her journal. Damian's canon I have mostly in trade because he's easy, that way, so I don't keep as comprehensive of lists as the other two need.
Damian also got a reference/inspiration post on lj, but I haven't ported it over yet because I'm beginning to reformat it. But it's just quotes, songs, arts and panels that serve as a mini-basis for his character!
But yeah, Clint's journal is the best set up at the moment, and when I have the time the other two will get the basics that his has. And maybe someday all three will move beyond that when I'm not lazy as all hell. :')
Oh, and I have a polyvore that I use for all three, but Donna gets the most love there.

I also have a few youtubes bookmarked, for quick refs, especially handy if I'm feeling shaky on her voice and need to remind myself what she sounds like.
I don't usually do cr charts, but I'm thinking about making a list of people Samara wants to kill/has her eye on, and her reasoning for watching/wanting to murder the crap out of them.
The...end??

I look up stuff as needed (science stuff, law stuff, SO MUCH HISTORY) and I often have issues on hand if I want a specific mental state or speech pattern or event to be fresh in mind. Most of this stuff I am at the point where I don't need to use it most of the time, but, sometimes! I'm planning to make a directory for all of my characters and their canon but I haven't yet done that because it's WORK.
