C&C 2020 Someone call for a dystopian future au? Sometime around 2013 (THIS IS NEW, GUYS, WE'RE JUST SLIDING THE SHIT HITTING THE FAN FORWARD A FEW YEARS OKAY), the government in the City decided that they'd had enough of these superhero antics. There was a nationwide crackdown on metas, requiring registration upon penalty of incarceration. The network was shut down, and many residents were scattered to the winds. There are a few that stayed in touch, however. That's where you come in. For some of you, this might be from before your time. Not to fear! Since it's a highly flexible splinter universe, there's pretty much no such thing as canon. Retcons abound, either as allowances for contradictory canon information (except for the premise, of course), or even just if the player wants to change something around! So, use this post as a free-for all. New characters get new projected histories, dropped characters can be said to have come back, and old characters can be reexamined or given more story. On Saturday, an open post will be put up in capeandcowl2020 proper, so use this time to work out information and pimp this out to players who're eligible but may not see this (you can also ahead and start your own posts in that comm)! MATT MURDOCK

This is all from last time! If details need to be adjusted, let's do it! :D

Matt was ready to stand and fight. He'd been against any sort of registration or crackdown before, and he sure as hell was not going to go without a fight. And he did fight. He fought hard, and he wound up with a traumatic brain injury following a scuffle with police. He was hospitalized, forced to register in his incapacitated state before being released into society again.

The only problem was his radar was completely gone and his short term memory was all but destroyed.

Terezi somehow found him first, and decided that she would put her suffering man lusus out of his misery. Fortunately May intervened at the last second, preventing Matt's gruesome murder at the hands of his adoptive daughter.

Unable to practice law anymore, Matt was able to find work as a line chef while living with May and trying to keep Terezi from getting into too much trouble. But it's difficult when you can't really remember anything and you have no powers.

BOBBI BARTON

Working against registration became Bobbi's number one priority in the first days following the crackdown. She and Clint went underground, and using her experience as a SHIELD agent, they set up a network of spies and hackers, working to create as much chaos and sabotage as they could without getting busted themselves.

During this time, the two became parents to a son, Francis, now aged six. He's the spitting image of his father and is absolutely devoted to his mother. Bobbi gives him small missions of his own, such as watching after baby Catarina, a task Francis seems to take very seriously.

When she's not busy taking care of her son, Bobbi can usually be found hacking into government computers or doing undercover work. Sometimes she works with Clint and Carol, but it's easiest if someone is able to stay home with Francis. And Clint's an awesome dad...

JESSICA WAKEFIELD

Jessica was pregnant when the crackdown happened. She wasn't aware of this at the time, and she wouldn't realize this until a month or so later, after her friends had scattered (or been arrested, as the case may have been.) Jessica was on her own, and she had to grow up very quickly now that she had another mouth to feed and another person depending solely on her. She assumed the alias Elizabeth Robertson during this time, and she relocated herself to Miami in hopes of avoiding any unwanted attention.

Daughter Jaime was born in 2014, and Jessica began working as a waitress in order to make ends meet. The money wasn't good though, and she eventually took up the offer to start "dancing" on the side for extra cash. It was sometimes degrading, but Jessica was determined to take care of herself, and she wasn't about to go crawling to the few imPorts she knew, looking for a handout. She was able to save up a modest amount to care for herself and her daughter, and so long as she didn't think about it, she was able to get by.

Sometime in 2019, a dark haired stranger happened to walk into the club where Jessica worked. Laura recognized her old friend immediately, and it took essentially zero effort to convince the blonde to pack up her things and head out with the assassin. Laura took Jessica on the road, with little Jaime in tow, as she went from place to place as a killer for hire.

In 2020, the trio returned to the City for the first time since the crackdown. That's when she was reunited with Jason (whom she'd long presumed was dead) and embarked on the next awkward and horrible phase of her life.

ANGELICA MAXIMOFF

Still married to Pietro, Angelica was able to become pregnant with twins through the medical intervention of some helpful imPort in 2013. Everything was looking awesome and the future was bright-- until the government crackdown. In the chaos, Calvin was taken from his adoptive parents and imprisoned. Devastated, Pietro and Angie did their best to try to rescue him, but it was all in vain. She was forced to keep a low profile and leave the City or else put her unborn children at further risk. The pair settled in some nondescript suburban area outside the City, maintaining contact with their former Avengers teammates and holding out hope that Calvin would be released from prison soon.

The loss of her son was devastating for her, though she found a renewed sense of happiness following the birth of twins Barty and Mattie in early 2015. Eventually she found work in an art gallery, which she found especially fulfilling, and in 2016, she and Pietro were again proud parents, this time to a baby girl they named Catarina.

That's around the time Pietro suddenly disappeared. Angie didn't know what happened to him, she initially thought he'd been arrested or detained for using his powers. She rallied all of the imPorts she was still in contact with to help her find him. Days turned into weeks, which turned into months. Then a year passed, then two. And while Angelica never gave up hope that Pietro would come back home, life had to go on. Barty, Mattie and Catarina needed their mother, and as unsure as she was, Angie was determined to be the best mother in the world. Under the stress, her secret drinking became more and more pronounced, despite her efforts to hide it.

But in 2020 her breast cancer returned, and her prognosis was not so good. She was a thirty-four year old widow with three children, and she had just months left to live. She hasn't told anyone of her condition, afraid to frighten the children, she's been taking secret precautions to ensure that they will be cared for following her pending death. After months of searching, she was finally able to locate Erik Lehnsherr and Black Bolt and sought their protection. In her final days she is surrounding herself with what is left of her family until the inevitable happens.

HELENA WAYNE

Standing and fighting was the only option Helena saw. This world was the only world she had left, and as far as she was concerned it was her home. She wasn't about to surrender, and when Dick and Damian moved underground, Helena did too, though she maintained her distance for awhile. It wasn't until Damian decided to fly solo that Helena became Dick's partner, assisting him in setting up Batman, Inc.

Still with unresolved and complicated feelings for him (and the rest of her family) she finds herself comfortable in the role of his right hand, offering hands on assistance to imPorts on the run and in need, in addition to participating in her own pursuits, fighting crime as the Huntress on the side.

The po-po won't take her alive, that's all she has to say on the subject.

KATE BISHOP

Kate fell in with Phobos at some point soon after the government crackdown, and soon after a super secret black-ops type team was formed, consisting of Alex, Kate, April, Aoi, and sometimes Quentin and Monet (and maybe others IDK!!) Kate isn't the leader, though she thinks she should be. They're often told they do more damage than good, that they're this close to being permanently disbanded, blah blah blah. The team itself doesn't always get along, but they get shit done, and that's what matters.

By this point she's hella over her Bucky crush (mostly) and is more concerned with the people on her team not dying than anything else. Her team is her family, even though they don't always get along.
