he already had a good opinion of ruka, since she's been both reasonable and respectful towards him from the moment he arrived, she was one of the precious few who made a good impression on him right off the bat.

since the hellbus plot, though, he's come to actually trust her, which is a massive deal when it comes to karkat! she saw him at his weakest and most vulnerable and she didn't treat him like he was any less for it and that means a lot to him. she saved his life too, and he won't forget that. her being a fellow empath and commiserating with him over the fact that they're surrounded by insanity and their powers suck and bringing him food and keeping him company in hospital all contributed to his positive opinion of her, and generally, he really likes her, values her company, respects her, and tentatively trusts her. he counts her as a friend, but he won't call her that to her face unless she does first.

he's a little wary of her re: her empathy and what he picked up from it, but intends to keep his word on not telling anyone. he can relate to wanting to keep some things private. the idea of carrying around that much negativity is kind of mind boggling and mostly he has resolved to put it out of his mind and not think about it.
