THE QUADRANT MEME.

Quadrants are the Alternian method of romance. Now though, whether you're a troll, human, robot, jello alien or other: you're suddenly experiencing some... feelings for someone else. Feelings that may be alien to you, may be comfortable, or may be utterly outrageous. The point here is: what are you going to do about it?
● post with your characters.
● go here and roll a number between 1 and 6.
● your character is suddenly overcome with one of the emotions outlined below for the person you're tagging.
● obviously since a lot of characters don't understand, recognize or even know of the existence of the quadrants they probably aren't going to call them that. the focus here are the feelings your character will be experiencing, and how they react to and interpret them is up to you!
● have fun!

one. ♥ matespritship.
flushed romance! this one is pretty straightforward! straight up parallel to human romance. they make your kokoro go doki doki, etc. you are suddenly as deep in the scarlet throes as one can be. you are basically in love with them. qurl, you be crushin' up a storm.

two. ♠ kismesissitude.
caliginous romance! is a romantic hatred that functions similarly to an arch nemesis dynamic. whoever this person is, you hate them so, so much. you loathe everything to do with them. you're compelled to oppose and compete with and undermine them at every opportunity. you want them to hate you just as much as you do them. this isn't just your run of the mill loathing. it's a rivalry. it's romantic. you want to punch them in the mouth and then you want to kiss it.
three. ♦ moirallegiance.
pale romance! being a conciliatory quadrant, this one doesn't entail physical attraction like the first two. the closest human concept to that of moirallegiance is a "soul mate". however there is more to it than that, a very specific relationship dynamic. moirallegiance involves the pacification of a dangerous partner, whether that danger is posed to everyone else or to themselves. for whatever reason, you either feel as though the other person tempers your more destructive or self destructive tendencies in a way no one else can -- or you feel the need to do just that for them.
four. ♣ auspisticism.
ashen romance! another conciliatory quadrant. this one involves three people, where one party mediates between two others in order to prevent their relationship from boiling over into caliginous territory (see above) and/or help stabilize particularly turbulent or unhealthy relationships. either your character thinks this person needs a middleman, they want a middleman, or they themselves want to be the middleman. either way, someone is doing some meddling here. optionally you can bring in a third player for this one!
five. ♥♠♦♣ vacillation.

feelings are tricky things and rarely are you able to fit them into clear cut little boxes. whether you're flip flopping between flushed and caliginous or flushed and ashen or caliginous and pale, your feelings don't appear to know what they're doing here! which quadrants you're vacillating in are entirely up to you. you can either roll for them or choose. the main thing here is you can't seem to decide on how you feel about this person.
six. ? wildcard.

choose your own! do whatever you like. this option is a blank check.
if my own summarized explanations of the relationship dynamics were not enough, there is a teal deer explanation here and a slightly less teal deer explanation on the mspa wiki.

[ Two weeks flat on his back, two weeks to play what happened over and over again, two weeks to go over the last two months and realize every security protocol he's breached, every time his own selfish need to be closer could have put Mitch in danger. It wasn't a conscious choice to do this here, but maybe it was better this way, with everything around him to remind him of his place, that this was where he didn't belong. He took a step back, hands loose at his sides, already marking a distance, keeping himself from crossing it.
He wasn't cradling his heart broken and bleeding in his hands, he wasn't at the end of his rope. He was getting out while he still had the dignity and the courage to do it, because it was the only thing he had to offer Mitch: to not be a problem. ]
I tried to get over it, and it didn't work, so I'm quitting before I fuck it up. [ Or fuck it up more than he already had. He swallowed, then tried for a shaky laugh, the humor falling flat. ] And you don't feel the same way about me, and that's fine, but I can't -- spend every day looking at something I can't have.
I'm not that good a person.

This was for the best, and it was an out like he couldn't believe it. The easiest out he's ever had. He doesn't have to deal with the bullshit that goes into it, and he doesn't have to pretend that there's nothing wrong, and he doesn't have to smile and make believe that this is just like the old days, when it really, really fucking isn't. ]
Yeah, well. I guess that's it, then. It's been great, pal, but if you don't think you can your job, then I trust your judgement.

Maybe that was why he said it, head tipped and voice wry as he shoved hands into pockets to keep them from shaking. ]
Hey, if I'm leaving, the least you could do is call me by name.
no subject
It was so much easier to pretend. ]
Sorry, Bradbury--
[ A sigh, shit. ] You know, I'll miss having you around, Rick.
[ That was probably honest enough. ]

But the heart wants what the heart wants. ]
I'll be around. Join a crew or something, help put this place back together every time somebody blows it up.

ex-best friend when they make that kind of confession and you're trying to get them out of the door without saying that you were? And it wasn't, you know, the fact that the statement wasn't expected, or...well, Mitch would never admit it, not out loud, and definitely not a second time, but when the sentiment was reciprocated?
There really wasn't an artful way to do this, was there? Maybe that's why he'd fucked up beforehand. Well, he sure as shit wouldn't do that a second time. ]
Yeah. I know they need good people out there.
[ It still sounded terrible, even out loud. ]

Not that it worked out for him, even then. ]
Yeah. So. Thanks for everything.
[ He meant it. He knew the words made it sound more like a goodbye than anything else, a finality weighing down on his shoulders and making his head drop. Someone else might have reached out one last time, to shake on it, end on a good note, but Bradbury didn't trust himself with that much. So he turned to walk out the door, walk out on the only person who'd meant this much to him in years, because he couldn't see any other way to move on with his life. Both their lives. ]
