not-a-meme, winter holiday edition
it's that time of the year again, and since the world has miraculously managed not to end by 2012, let's talk about holidays!!!
1. do your characters have any special rituals for the end of the year?
2. do your characters celebrate any winter holidays here/back home? if so, how do they usually spend them?
3. what is on your character's christmas wishlist this year/what kind of gifts do they like receiving?

Nothing outside the normal stuff. She probably has a Top Ten Most Stupid Things That Happened youtube video.

Yes. And with her family. Also, the Parks and Rec department made a really BIG DEAL out of the holidays and gift giving (Leslie). Like, REALLY BIG DEAL. Glitter raining from the skies and building scale models of the office and everyone in it out of gingerbread and candy kind of big deal. So, she is going to be a secretly sad little raccoon here in the City. It's baby's first Christmas away from home :(
3. what is on your character's christmas wishlist this year/what kind of gifts do they like receiving?
April receives gifts. Of all kinds. But food is the best kind. Giving...eh. We'll see.

does this mean more physical abuse is getting heaped on rick because he sure hopes not
that said, decorating up city hall or setting up a christmas tree somewhere is definitely a post that will be made sometime so . . .

and he's had his abuse quota for dying. she'll just be responding with monosyllables more. out of inner angst.

he might spend a little more time thinking about things, like old regrets and the like, but he doesn't do anything special in particular. he likes the longer nights, so he might drive out away from the city just to check out what the stars look like where the lights don't wash them out.
since he turned 35, he's also made it a point to risk hypothermia (among other things) by going for a swim at least once in the middle of winter as a life-affirming kind of thing! he's still deciding if he wants to do that this year or not.
2. do your characters celebrate any winter holidays here/back home? if so, how do they usually spend them?
since bradbury's divorced, back home he usually gets his girls for either christmas morning or christmas eve, splitting the time with his ex-wife! so he always ended up spending part of it alone
with a bottle of jack daniels or something. i doubt he spent a lot of time at christmas parties and the like unless it was part of his job.he's not sure how christmas here is going to go, but judging by how much the city loves its disaster holidays, he's bracing himself for a very unmerry christmas.
3. what is on your character's christmas wishlist this year/what kind of gifts do they like receiving?
overall, bradbury isn't really a guy who knows what to do with gifts even when he gets them! he's generally surprised to get anything at all (mitch is a shitty best friend), so he doesn't have much of a wishlist, except MAYBE CAN NO ONE IN CITY HALL DIE ON HIS WATCH??? also mitch being less of a cagey twat would be nice, but it will be a cold day in hell before that happens.
he's the type who'd say he likes practical gifts, because he knows people usually don't associate him with frivolous stuff, and it makes it easier for them than trying to get him something he'll actually like.
that said, canonly, he likes hard liquor and russian cigarettes. he likes listening to music, so a sound system/mp3 player would be well-received! he likes pets but he knows he can't really afford the time/attention to spare for one here... and for the really high-end shit, he'd like getting a swanky motorbike. :')

Callie- Usually she doesn't, but this year supposed to be the apocalypse, she's going all out. Sacrifices and rituals to another dimensional Satan? You know it!!
Piccolo- Never. He doesn't celebrate holidays. Maybe tie up loose ends if any.
Jack- He buys himself a lot of new stuff and toys... maybe romance his current partner, or dazzle a new one with gifts and outtings. As much of an asshole Jack is... he's good to his love-interests as long as they don't piss him off.
2. do your characters celebrate any winter holidays here/back home? if so, how do they usually spend them?
Callie- On occasion, Callie does. She spends it with her mom and loved ones
Piccolo- Not particularly. Maybe he'll change his training site.
Jack- Back in the day, yes. He would celebrate x-mas by giving Angel a more modest amount of Eridium to her system, and maybe spends a little more time with her. Nothing too mushy or affectionate, however. Usually it's business.
3. what is on your character's christmas wishlist this year/what kind of gifts do they like receiving?
Callie- Callie's wishlist usually includes weapons of some kind, the End of Days is always on it, but she also likes jewelry, mayhem, and violence. Best presents ever.
Piccolo- Piccolo doesn't want. He's simple and has simple needs. He won't turn down any presents, but he's not expecting or wanting any.
Jack- Jack wants
a manufacturing plant to construct and program new robotssmall things. Quality cigars, scotch, maybe a new vest, top of the line electronics... though a part of him wants extravagant needless things... like a genetically modified baby giraffe and an ocelot.no subject

Christmas is more of a couples' romantic holiday in Japan so she doesn't really have any traditions related to it, but going out and seeing the decorations is always nice. New Year's is the big one for her; year-end hot soba noodles on New Year's Eve, and a visit to a Shinto shrine on New Year's Day to put in an offering and a prayer for the coming year.
As for gifts, she doesn't have a wishlist or anything because she's only just recently been turned on to the concept of Christmas as a general gift-giving holiday, but she's the type to appreciate any gift that someone cares enough to give her, and honestly she'd rather get to see what a person's choice of gift tells her about them and her relationship with them than suggest things for anyone to give her.
Food always goes over really well, though. n_n

Daria is stuck with her family, which leads to the usual dysfunction to spill through. If any extended family are invited, there's likely to be a physical fight of some kind. She spends New Year's in much the same manner, with added eyeroll, apart from occasional network plugs. Her wish list is books and stability in her life, but she'll appreciate clothes, useless gadgets, and boxsets of awful reality TV shows.
Ladd is a creeper, and celebrates the whole holiday season getting drunk and probably killing people. He gets super in to the Christmas spirit, but mostly as an excuse to irritate people. Nobody gets him anything for Christmas, and he certainly doesn't expect anything.

2. Nope, draconians only have two holidays, and don't typically celebrate human/elf/dwarf/whatever ones. Humans celebrate something called Yule, which is somewhat similar to Christmas.
3. Kang'll honestly be surprised if anyone besides Kenzi gets him anything; he hasn't put any thought into what he'd like to get. He's already getting the best Christmas present, in the form of kids, back home.

Alastair became a humanity-hating atheist long ago and he's never gotten over it. The end of the year is just a reminder that his family is dead, and with them any childhood traditions. Now that he's alone, his adopted City-family long gone, he hates it even more. If he does anything, he'll get drunk and try to hack into the Pentagon or something. But he runs Dancitron, now, so I'm sure there'll be some kind of New Year's Eve party special.
Kotetsu does celebrate Christmas, it seems to be just the same back in Sternbild as it is in New York, ice skating rink and Christmas tree included. He is a sentimental derp and, in addition to sending gifts to his family if he couldn't get time off from HeroTV to go visit, probably decorated and loved every schmaltzy tradition. Seeing as a commemorative Christmas pin became a plot device for the end of the series, I mean come on. I'm sure he and Tomoe showered Kaede with gifts and had a very common Western Christmas in Sternbild. Since becoming a widower, and a busy Hero, I'm willing to bet that most of his last few Christmases have involved going drinking with Antonio, two aging bachelors with nothing else to do. Ditto New Years, unless there were TV specials for HeroTV.
This year, he's probably going to expect nothing but hope for maybe a few things for around his apartment, things to call his own and make it feel less like he's temporarily working in an alternate dimension. But aside from some of his coworkers on the TV show, I'm not sure who else he's close enough to for gift-swapping. He WILL be derping about it on the network, though. And also drinking himself under a table when the homesickness hits.

with a little mystical helpand he was spoiled rotten. Since his family are right out of the frame now, he doesn't enjoy anything that reminds him of them, so his cynicism raises by a couple of notches around this time of year. It's also pretty bad at Thanksgiving. Where rituals are concerned, he doesn't have any. He doesn't decorate for Christmas, though that's only partly to do with not liking the holiday - it's also because he doesn't really care what state his room is in even at the best of times. He likes receiving gifts, and probably his preference would be music-related, but he doesn't have any kind of wishlist. Mostly he expects to work through Christmas and keep his mind off it.Jason doesn't celebrate any of the winter holidays, because they're religious holidays, and as the son of a Roman god, he's not affiliated with any mortal religion. Camp Half-Blood, the ancient Greek training camp where he spent last Christmas, doesn't celebrate the holidays but it does engage in the general atmosphere. Lots of the kids there have parents who would have celebrated a holiday with them, so the Camp has a general celebratory feel without engaging in any of the activities that would be associated with any particular holiday. Jason has only been in Camp Half-Blood for one holiday season, and there's no canon for how the holidays are treated at his actual home, Camp Jupiter. My headcanon is that it's similar, since the Roman demigods are no more associated with mortal religion than the Greeks. Additionally, Jason never knew his mortal mother - he's been in Camp Jupiter since he was 2-3 years old, so he's never celebrated a traditional holiday. He doesn't give gifts, and wouldn't expect to receive them. He will enjoy the atmosphere around the City while being quietly interested in/bemused by everyone's various traditions.

but he does have a secret wishlist. it's probably music, video games, and typical teenage stuff. Though he'd never reveal his wishlist, he secretly hopes to get gifts. Even though he knows it's unlikely.

2. Apparently trolls had a holiday called Twelfth Perigee's Eve? Which was like their version of Christmas except I think they decorate monster shit instead of a tree and Santa's probably a culling drone or something because trolls. BASICALLY NO ONE REALLY EXPLAINS IT BUT IT HAPPENS
Nepeta and Pounce probably celebrated it in a way similar to warm climate residents putting up palm trees, aka making a big pile of horrifically large bones from their hunts and hanging little bundles of feathers and fur off it instead of the typical leavings. Again because of her location she probably didn't do much more than that and maybe send everyone a picture as a gift, but looking at her festive pile of dead animal parts makes her feel good about the season.
In the city she's experiencing Christmas for the first time ever! She still doesn't understand
anythingmuch of what's happening, but is really enamored by all of the glitzy decorations and being able to actually give her friends REAL GIFTS for the first time ever. By the time the season's over trollhaus is probably going to be covered in Santas and cats in festive sweaters because she can't help herself it's all so cute.3. Nepeta doesn't have a wishlist, but if she did it would probably consist of 'Equius' and 'please let everyone be happy' and nothing else. She's more interested in getting things for everyone else than really thinking of receiving things herself.
That said, cute things. Kitty things. Anything that looks like you put thought into it. Nepeta is easy to please.

2. He LOVES holidays. LOVES THEM. This year he's a bit sad to be alone though.
3. HE HAS A WISH LIST! It's includes a tiny torch and swiss army knife.
