i didn't really expect most of this was even there until i started really thinking about it

after her powers came back, she's resented a little that nill didn't tell anyone that she was harboring davesprite, and because of that she didn't bother letting nill in on her plans to bring him back home, either. it's the beginning of what could turn into a slow process to build up walls between them, keeping her at arm's length to where her friendship is just one more duty. she'll do things like organize and host her birthday party, make her clothes, go shopping with her, shield her from danger, but there's a kind of emotional disconnect there all the same.

they've been friends for a year, and she's not sure how well she really knows nill. she certainly doesn't think nill understands her, but that might be her own fault for never being open. until the davesprite issue came up, they may not have been exactly emotional pillars in each other's lives, but she was at least consistent, easy to get along with, uncomplicated.

now what she'd perceived before as innocence is starting to look like naivete, always offering help kanaya could never accept. she looks at nill's life and sees someone who, to her knowledge, has been given everything she's ever needed. her powers provided her an instant source of income, she has always had someone to look after her, and she never gets into trouble without someone to come rescue her. whereas, for kanaya, nothing has ever come easy and she has to work herself to death to keep everyone happy and everything in one piece. when she falls, there will be no one to catch her. she doesn't know that nill even realizes how good she has it.
