in general: morality is a skewed concept, but one which she wishes she could tip herself over onto the "good" side of. rose wants to be a good person; she wants her friends to be good people who get on with each other. rose will do anything to keep her bros safe.

herself: rose will do anything to keep friends safe. anything - this does not make her a good person, if one starts to look into this too deep. rose could probably kill a man if it meant protecting someone she really cared about. rose is selfish; she has an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a desire to keep on top of things and to get ahead of the curb because it means she can better protect the people she cares about. the path to hell is paved with good intentions, after all. theoretically THIS SHOULD MAKE HER A GOOD PERSON but let's be real rose does half the shit she does for herself as much as she does it to keep her friend together.

rose knows that neither she nor her friends have completely clean slates and she wishes they did, but then they wouldn't be themselves. she probably gives them more lee-way than she gives herself, tbh.

But yeah I think Sally's expectations and hopes all really rested with her daughter and continuing the 'legacy' in which she started. Sally's too stuck in the past, and Laurie is someone she lives vicariously through and is someone she pushes and exerts a lot of time and energy into. It's why their relationship is so strained, it's because while Sally does see her as her child sometimes she gets so caught up in the image and the shaping that she doesn't let Laurie stray from the path that she set up for her. She just wants some form of success, and thinks she can find it through her daughter's youth.

AS FOR SALLY'S THOUGHTS ON HER OWN SEXUALITY it's extremely complicated considering how much shame and hiding she had to deal with after Eddie's sexual assault. She was definitely proud of her sexuality, definitely proud of her sexual image and was somewhat confident in at least the way she looked. I mean, it's obvious that Larry was using her, but Sally was using him as well and so it was a mutual thing of two people taking advantage of each other. But with Eddie and the aftermath of that (the fact that she was still sexually attracted to him despite knowing she should hate him, the fact that Bill attributed her assault to the way she carried herself and the way she dressed) she kind of...has to question her sexual wants and desires. In the interviews provided by the Graphic Novel she demonstrates doubt when the sexual assault comes up, saying that maybe she did want it and was just too ashamed to admit it, and her fights with Larry definitely did a number on her when he questioned her sanity for willingly sleeping with her assaulter. And of course, there had been Ursula who had been a lesbian and I think that sort of bugged Sally because her entire image and life did revolve around appealing to men's tastes and taking advantage of that, so to meet a woman who didn't care about the male gaze and a woman who didn't want to appeal to the male gaze was just entirely too bizarre for her to parse. And in a way, I think Sally was jealous of that.

I don't think Sally considers herself a feminist, but I do think she demonstrates a great deal of feminist ideals as far as the fact that, while her career relied on men and while her career was based on men and that she needed Larry in order to get herself somewhere, she did it on her own terms and her own wants and does wind up as a single mother who's successful living on her own. She didn't want to be a housewife, and the supplemental material on the Minutemen has her running away from a suburban life as a teen to try to hit it big in the city, so that does say a lot about her and her independence. She didn't want to deal with that sort of idealistic lifestyle. And in Silk Spectre it portrays Sally as keeping Laurie away from romance novels and from boys in general, because I think she does believe that men hold the power to ruin a woman's life and she doesn't want to see that happen to her daughter.

SALLY'S AN INDEPENDENT WOMAN WHO DON'T NEED NO MAN except in the fact that her needy personality kind of demands it at the same time. Basically, as with all Watchmen character, she's SEXUALLY CONFLICTED.

SADLY, YES. While rationally and emotionally everything currently in his life is suitable to his other wants and needs (sexy, smart girlfriend, political power and influence, actual friends somehow???, NOT BEING IN JAIL, NOT BEING IN NOHOPE, lavish lifestyle and accolades to match his daily egotistical needs), all of that is secondary to the thrill of intellectual challenge, which he most accurately finds in criminal activity. He has the self-awareness to recognize this, as well as the destructive streak to burn everything he's work for.
