John is I think probably the guy he's closest to having as a True Bro, though since John has Sherlock Bradbury understands that he'll always be second-best! Which isn't actually a bad thing, frankly speaking, because Bradbury has Mitch and his loyalty can't afford to be torn like that. In a lot of ways, they're similar, but in a way Bradbury's vaguely envious of John for having a friendship where it's clear that both parties are there for each other in a way that he and Mitch... really aren't. Which is not to say that he resents John for that! It's just the wany things are.

He really likes having someone who isn't connected to City Hall (and who would have no reason to be) because seriously, when the only friends you have are those at work, you'd start going crazy pretty quickly. While he doesn't exactly bitch to John in detail, he can probably tell how good or bad a week it was by how much he drinks when they're together. In a lot of ways, John is his reality check (ie. the only 'normal' friend he really seems to have, and the person he turns to when he needs reminding that he's not completely surrounded by batshit insane people) and he feels a strong kinship with him because of their respective friendships with CRAZY WORK-OBSESSED PEOPLE.

He also didn't quite realize he meant anything to John until he got pissed off about the whole being-dead thing, and that genuinely startles him! Regardless, that incident has definitely bumped up their friendship points by a bit (as fighting then making up tends to do) and he'll definitely think twice about getting killed again (unless it's for Mitch and then... well, sorry John).
