[ For reasons Kirei is very much aware of, his stores of alcohol last for much longer here in the City then they had during the War. This is the first time he has needed to refill them, and the gesture of doing so causes an uncomfortable association: does he really need to purchase it? The holy wines for the church are provided for him elsewhere; these are indulgent pleasures for his own tasting... but he hasn't really been drinking his wine since coming here. It isn't an activity that has half of the appeal when done without company. With that thought pressing in his mind, he turns the aisle, and goes very still.

Finding him here is almost comical.

Kirei does not believe it, at first, but there is no mistaking the King of Heroes when Kirei lays eyes on him. The pressure increases on his false-heart, and he can feel the Command Spells on his arm vividly.

Kirei could say a great deal, but instead:
]

...you'll be expected to pay.

[ Because he doubts the King of Heroes will think much of walking through the checkout like a commoner. ]

[ The King of Heroes would never dream of such a notion. If there is one such truth in the world, Gilgamesh partook of what he had so desired in life.

He will continue to do so, now.

Even still, the King of Heroes knows when he is being observed - and that familiar voice does not take him off-guard. No, it is the opposite. The irritation that has been catching the fray of his nerves tapers minutely at the drop of syllables and he realizes, quite immediately, that there is one such thing he will not be unjustly deprived of, after all. ]

Will I, now?

[ He doesn't glance over, at first. He opts instead to skim his fingers over the necks of selections he cares little for - takes in their vintages with a certain tedium, before he settles. His fingers encircle, with no discerned effort, no matter the wear that appears fresh upon them. ]

Kirei. [ He shifts his attentions just as easily as he takes down his selection. There's still no immediacy in his movements, and he takes a moment to appraise the man before him. No matter the peculiarity of favor, there are two things he gathers upon sight: 1) Kotomine Kirei must have arrived some time before him, if his state was of any indication, and 2) that response parses incorrectly for the one who he had just witnessed in wake of the fire.

But, these inconsistencies aside, he seeks to confirm it. He wonders. ]
Don't look so surprised, [ he drawls. And, already, he gestures languidly with the wine bottle, as if to extend it to him. He would not be paying for it, isn't that right? ] Have you been that sorely deprived of my presence?

[ Kirei watches his Servant with a narrow focus, following as slender fingers trace over the glass bottles. His touch is graceful, and deceptively delicate. It seems lazy and absentminded, but Kirei feels like each motion is purposeful: deliberately slow. ]

The tags you were given provide you with currency. [ Not that Gilgamesh needs to worry about such a thing, if he still has access to the Gate of Babylon. Nonetheless, Kirei reaches out, taking the bottle as it as held towards him. ] I do not believe your treasury will be accepted as legal tender.

[ The next comment gives Kirei a mild pause. It's true, he's not the same man that he was at the end of the War; he has suffered a setback. His goal, his wish, involves the Grail, which is denied to him here, and he lives with the knowledge that he fails in the future... and the frustration that even knowing that now, after being told and warned, he cannot take that knowledge with him. If he is removed from this world, all memories of it are removed as well, there will be nothing he can do to change this future in Fuyuki. He is doomed to fail.

Unless he can find some substitute here... but that is not so simple. There are those who would stand against him, and they are waiting for him to step too far. They have seen his darkness, so they cannot be deceived. If his actions are too bold, he will be stopped -- and until most recently, he did not even have a Servant to stand with him.

That is, if Gilgamesh would still oblige.
]

The circumstances of this place are complex. There are those who would seek to end my life if they were aware of my actions.

[ And Gilgamesh may count among them. Rin's words resound firmly in his mind: ten years from now, he will order his Servant to commit suicide, and be killed himself in retribution. Kirei will commit the one trespass which Tokiomi intended, the final card he played to turn Gilgamesh to his favor. He won Gilgamesh to his side by saving his second life, and then he chose to end it himself -- and he still does not know why.

Considering the fact that Gilgamesh is not immediately seeking yet another revenge, Kirei feels safe to wager that perhaps (unlike every other member of Fuyuki summoned to this place) Gilgamesh only recalls the fourth War.
]

I have been in want of good company.

[ If there is pause that greets Kirei in return, it is briefer than the exchange of hands. Gilgamesh weighs and considers quickly, and the priest’s own moment of thought did not escape him. If there is nothing else to prove what he has drawn upon by the state of his appearance, then his words and the temporary brush of silence has provided it in spades. ]

A foolish decision it would be, then. [ He starts, one hand coming to rest comfortably upon his hip. The other focuses on emphasis, and it is all encapsulated in the languid rolling over his hand. It is a movement designed to draw the eyes up, to any other. For him, it is natural. It echoes importance, no matter the facetiousness that rests at the edges of his words: ] It surprises little that they do not know currency of merit. [ To those who would know Gilgamesh – and very few that would be –, the jest points more firmly toward the idea that he would even deign to allow just any human to rest fingers upon what resides in his Gate. That is, of course, anything of particular worth. ]

Oh? [ The tone drops. The news does not surprise him, not entirely, but there lies another inconsistency: why would he tell him such a thing? It is not as though he does not know the potential repercussions would not be favorable upon discovery. Unless – ] Really, now… [ His lips curve up, derisively. He has suspicion of his own: ] Has such trouble descended upon you already in wake of my absence?

[ It is the only explanation. Who would know, however? Who would suspect a man of cloth? His mind turns over possibilities. Other Servants, perhaps – perhaps… He’ll wait upon it. There is another here, he is certain of it. There is no question of it, now. His next words are less paced than the former: ]

Go ahead. [ He gestures dismissively, more with the turn of the wrist than the movement of fingers. His smile shifts – takes upon an edge of some strange satisfaction. Whether it be by words alone or possible knowledge, there lies confirmation of a correct wager. Gilgamesh may have once seen further than any other, but his scope was limited – and he can neither see nor interpret the weight of a portent. Not anymore. Not alone.

Not entirely, even if it were again permitted. Its meaning, beyond what little images he still contains, would be lost. ]
I’ll bide my time until you return to tell me your details.

[ He means he’ll have to purchase that for him, of course. Gilgamesh, in reasonable exchange, shall wait. ]

It's a simple matter to explain. [ Kirei's tone is blunt; there is no reason to avoid the situation. ] There are others of Fuyuki here... and they have an advantage of added years ahead of my own. Deception only buys time for the inevitable; they have seen what I am.

Tokiomi's daughter is among them.

[ Kirei says this very plainly, not with dread or disappointment. His tone is very matter-of-fact, which is what the situation calls for. This is the truth of his predicament, and he is not entirely shackled by fear of his discovery. He merely has to shield himself. While Rin has her Archer, and Emiya carries Saber, Kirei could not fathom surviving. Now, however...

Having Gilgamesh at his side at all betrays the truth of what he has done, but would being exposed matter, if he has the King of Heroes as his blade once more?
]

Will this be all? [ Kirei asks a bit expectantly as he adds the wine to the basket in his hand. ]

[ He takes in the information Kirei provides him, and weighs and measures it in the span it takes to tilt his chin up. It takes the punch out of their movements, and the thought over who might be among them, but Gilgamesh has never held question of his own strength and abilities. His words are just as powerful as he is, and these troubles aside - he wonders what plan Kirei will concoct in order to seek what he wants. If he is to be exposed for all that he is, and if he is to follow him in his pursuits - well, he shall see what manner of entertainment it will bring.

However, Tokiomi's daughter... Such an irony that is - almost laughable. However, he had been present for their discussion, after all. He assumes which he means.

There is a sharpness that edges his smile: ]

And that would quell you? [ There's much riding on that answer, even as he considers. He casts his eyes to the selections beyond him, and seizes another by the neck with all his usual ease. It betrays all lack of fear, all lack of trepidation. He does not wait nor hand it to him - rather, he places it directly into the basket Kirei holds with little more bother than the lazy shift of heavy bracelets and - almost absently, as he straightens: ]

It shall suffice.

i'm just abusing these icons at this point

[personal profile] god_damned 2013-07-04 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ Kirei debates, briefly, telling Gilgamesh that Saber is here as well. It would surely amuse the King of Heroes, and to not tell him might sour his mood -- should Gilgamesh accuse him of hiding the fact -- but Kirei doesn't find it to be the most pressing matter.

He has been hindered, briefly, when coming to this place. There was so much to adjust to... but nothing that would shackle him. He still has the same desires; he simply needs to give them new shape.

His response is immediate and without doubt.
]

No.

[ The response makes Kirei grin faintly, and he nods his head. Gilgamesh won't pay for this, but will he not accompany Kirei at all? Unlikely. He steps aside, moving down the aisle with the basket in his hand. ]

I will only be a moment.

[ Kirei finds himself again feeling an uncharacteristic excitement. He hasn't had a decent drink in some time -- and not for lack of the wine itself, but for lack of a partner to taste it with. ]

[ Gilgamesh would argue that these matters are ones to be discussed with relative expediency, but there is, of course, potential amusement in finding such a treasure in the sprawl of the city. If there was one fact that remained, Gilgamesh was fond of such gems – and even fonder of obtaining them.

But, the immediacy of his answer is one that pleases. It reflects in the peculiar brightening of eyes, the smoothing his expression. Here, he speaks with the mirrored inclination of his chin. A rarity it is, to gain that much of him, but here he has earned it. Here, he continues to.

But, Kirei is not incorrect. Even if there is moment’s pause, he follows in his wake. After all, did he not say that he would? That aside, the prospect of wine and suitable company increases the odds. ]

oh god i love that one

[personal profile] god_damned 2013-07-05 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ Kirei feels an odd sense of satisfaction as Gilgamesh follows him, but it is a muddied sensation. This reunion ought to be one which pleases him, but the knowledge of their future hangs over him like a guillotine. Gilgamesh obviously (blessedly) does not remember much more than Kirei himself. If he did, Kirei doubts he would still be standing.

The checkout is fairly simple: his basket is light enough that he can use the express aisle, and his dog tags are used for payment without complaint. Kirei is aware that imPorts suffer a severe discrimination in this place, but Kirei has experienced precious little himself. It appears that the natives will respect a man of God, no matter whether or not he is alien to them; that role has power.

That finished, he turns to Gilgamesh, bags in hand.
