What do you have to "get over it"? Is that really a better option than just saying "Hey, Shinji, I like you"?

Like I said, it isn't exactly like that. There's more to it than that which wouldn't really work and probably just leave us both worse off than before. That's kind of counter-intuitive to the whole idea.

That's the idea in a functional example. But the question is whether there would be any function to it to begin with.

That's looking at it reductively. Pale romance is, for all intents and purposes, still a romance.

It's...a very deep emotional investment. The two eventually grow to become halves of a whole, and the parts of that sum aren't entirely equal to it separately.
