CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING--

TEST DRIVE MEME

Are you thinking about apping to to Cape & Cowl, but you want to get a feel of the setting and how your character will fit in it? Then you’ve come to the right place! Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, and don’t be afraid to throw yourself at anyone’s thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

1. As you exit the Porter Building, the ambient noises you heard, so faint back inside where you found yourself at the center of glowing platform alone – save for the black screen and the female voice who greeted you – erupt in every direction. Every corner you look is bustling with people and cars and bicycles; people going about their everyday life, unaware you’re one of them: an imPort.

2. Or perhaps your bizarre behaviour or appearance catches their attention. Maybe it’s the communicator you picked up before leaving. Either way, several Cityzens headed your way come to a full stop immediately, each one eyeing you differently. Some looks outright afraid, others seem intrigued, and then there are the others whose surprise fades quickly and they carry on past you without as much a second glance.

3. Confused? The Network seems like a good place to start with soliciting information. There appear to be three functions for you to access: AUDIO, VIDEO, and TEXT. Make some friends while you’re at it!

4. Maybe you’re just thrilled to be here and help. The night time is a great time to scope out the underbelly of the City and its criminals. There’s always something going on in its more troubled corners: breaking and entering, drugs or arms trafficking, an attempting kidnapping... the list goes on. The question is: what will you do, Hero?

5. Make up your own scenario, if you wish! You may have discovered the Porter has granted you the ability to make it hail cats. Or that your power of super speed is gone entirely. Maybe you’ve noticed the Statue of Liberty’s sporting a new look.

[Does Hannibal have a big blue box? No -- Chilton chastises himself -- that's silly, because Hannibal hasn't any bowties that he's well aware of, anyway. So this other doctor (this Doctor!) eludes Chilton's immediate recognition.

Probably good to note that Chilton doesn't know many people to begin with, as he's so often repulsive to potential friends.
]

Are you -- are you talking around me? I'm right here. I don't know of any man by that description, but I am right here.

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-29 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, sorry. Hi, I'm Amy, nice to meet you!

[He says it quickly, distractedly because this introduction will be useless as soon as the Doctor just hurries up already.]

But that's real great, yeah, you're a doctor. What do you do then? Might as well chat a bit before he gets here, no harm in that right?
slightlyoffchilt: (Feckless.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-09-29 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
No harm, I suppose. [Though if Chilton seems unconvinced, it's only because Amy exhibits such an exquisite unpredictability. He detects an anxious energy within the mannerisms -- something useful to keep in mind, maybe.]

I'm Doctor Chilton -- a doctor of psychiatry, mind. I was the Chief of Staff of the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

[Was?]

Am. I still am. [He clears his throat.] Welcome, Amy.

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-29 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh you're a shrink are you? I've seen a few of you before. [Read: four.] Aunt thought it would be good. I bit them.

[Amy shrugs. She makes great first impressions, really.]

Is this your planet, then?
slightlyoffchilt: (Libertine.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-09-29 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm used to a few teethmarks. Professional hazard, dealing with the criminally insane and what not.

[And then he smirks in that self-satisfied way, when he thinks he said something really funny.]

Not mine, no, although I herald from some Earth. It isn't this one.

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-29 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, me too! [wait there was an implication she needs to address there.] I'm not criminally insane though.
slightlyoffchilt: (Default)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-09-29 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Another parallel Earth? How many have we accumulated now? It's almost like an infinite crisis.

[He deftly eludes any more comment on his professional opinion of Amy's mental well-being.]

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-29 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Stop implying these things, mister!!]

Wait, you're serious, aren't you. [It's not a question because she's beginning to figure this out.] It's not just some joke is it? This place -- that thing with the "go be a hero" thing -- that's all real?
slightlyoffchilt: (Inclusion.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-09-29 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Just Amy's luck: instead of a Time Lord, she gets a douchelord.]

I assure you, unlike others whom we shan't mention by name, I am not at risk for mental illness -- especially not delusions. I've examined all the empirical evidence, and yes, it seems we must manage in this unsuitable environment. It's all real.

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-29 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[to be fair that's a really good way to describe like 70% of the doctor's incarnations]

Unlike others? [...right...] I'm used to time travel. And travel through space - still weird to say that - but this? This is just ridiculous. The Doctor wouldn't've left me here alone like this. He wouldn't. [Yes that's why you sound like you're convincing yourself, bb, better luck next time.]
slightlyoffchilt: (Flabbergasted.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-09-29 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Haha, fair enough!]

Used to time travel? [Now, normally, he'd pursue a (preemptive) diagnosis of extreme schizophrenic delusion, but given how he has experienced the same thing...] I suppose that makes sense, doesn't it? If it can occur once... I mean, it was winter the moment before I was pulled here. And now the year's progressed two-thirds already.

[An uneasy beat follows.]

What does that mean, if you and your Doctor are used to time travel, but you can't escape this? Why must you wait for him?

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-29 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well the big blue box I mentioned? Looks like an old police call box, but that's 'cause it's suck. It's actually a time machine. [Said like the most exciting thing in the world because it actually is.] But I can only travel if I'm in it, of course, and it's got to be with the Doctor.
slightlyoffchilt: (Default)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-09-29 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
So -- an actual time travel mechanism, controllable by an individual? Or, specifically, one individual. [Still. It's less bleak than being completely at the whims of this Porter figure.]

All good and well if your Doctor and his box are both here, but what if one arrives without the other? Through some cruel twist of fate, perhaps.

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-29 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Controllable by a Time Lord, but he says he's the last. [And then that time River flew it and it didn't even make the noise.]

Well I'd assume the Doctor would get here in the TARDIS.

slightlyoffchilt: (Default)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-09-30 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
But what if he was pulled, without this -- without the TARDIS. [He says it with a wince, like he really doesn't want to humor this reality. But the evidence is there.] Would that break the universe, or some such?

[It's odd how he sounds a bit hopeful at the prospect.]

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-30 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
That wouldn't happen. The Doctor is smarter than that.

[Honestly the absolute faith she has in him is almost as disconcerting as Chilton's hope that the universe might break.]
slightlyoffchilt: (Stride.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-09-30 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
You think your Doctor could rival this Porter in -- [He exhales, again questioning the depths he must go to, humoring this apparent reality.] -- Trans-dimensional spacetime manipulation? Or, unless you have a less wordy description, I really can't see myself saying that. Every time. [A beat.] Has he taken more than one individual? There appears to be many of us, but if he ever came and if he could transport us all back...

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-30 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Of course he could! Time And Relative [there's a pause while she thinks of the rest she knows she was told but sometimes the doctor talks a lot and it's all blah blah blah, oh, right -- ] Dimensions In Space. TARDIS. That's the whole point. [Actually no it's still mising the "Transdimensional" part, but shh] And it's bigger on the inside so I don't see why he couldn't help more people get home. Kind of an exciting trip through space.

[If only it were a red double decker bus of a TARDIS that would be appropriate for this mission]
slightlyoffchilt: (Inured.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-09-30 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's bigger on the inside? [That's it, that was his last clutch onto perceivable physics. Now spatial rationale doesn't even matter anymore, and it's too much for little ol' Doc Chilton. He rubs his hands over his face, possibly tempted to cry into them.]

What have I gotten into?

[personal profile] attendre 2013-09-30 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's the reaction everyone has once they step inside. Makes sense after awhile, in its own way.
slightlyoffchilt: (Frost.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2013-10-01 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
You must be an incredibly keen optimist, or something else. [He doesn't do well with empathy.] What you're describing sounds more like symptoms than anything else.
