CnC, I need your advice

So, Capital One has been offering me a credit card for several weeks now. Every time, I send the offer to the shredder, warts and all. However, it has recently occurred to me that every offer comes with a free postage paid envelope what with I can send back my "PLEASE GIVE ME CARD YES" information.

I don't wanna use it for that, though. There's no "Take me off your list," option on the form, there's no return address on the envelope I'd be sending them since they're just mass printed and stuffed, and I'm just straight up bored and wanting mischief. So.

I have my crayons.

If you do this.

Make sure you remove any and all barcodes/serial numbers from the form. Because I've seen this sort of prank backfire before. THINK OF YOUR CREDIT SCORE SENNET!

That said, Batman.

and agreeing with bitsy fhaksdfiwjfaef DON'T LET EM TRACE IT TO YOU

[identity profile] ajrimmer-ssc.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Not so much tracing it as having the serial number come back and taking it as an acceptance of the offer. I knew a dude in Vegas who did that. Got really PO'd at all the junk mail, filled out the form with nothing but obscenities and mailed it back.

Couple of weeks later he had a brand new credit card issued in his name, with an automatic monthly service charge, and an APR of, like, 6000%. Took him SO MUCH CRAP to get that card deactivated and removed from his credit report.

/Bitsy sucks the fun out of everything

Unless it had a signature, there's no way that's legal.

But yeah. Always remove aaaall identifying information. We regularly sent junk mail back to the senders so we got real good at that. For fun, we would send company a company b's forms. Or sales circulars. :)

That's what finally got it canceled in the end, yeah. But this was back in the earlier part of the decade, when banks were actually willing to extend credit. :V
