It was such a selfish thing to do, but...
There were times when she was all that kept me going. I do not know if that is enough to justify what I have done to her, all the hardships she has had to endure...

It is a difficult thing to delegate. I would say that selfishness is a brutality, but if her company permitted you to do what was necessary, perhaps it was not all bad.

I suppose it all depends on her feelings.
