Canon Sharing, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Creep

So! Since I've had a bunch of free time on my hands, I decided to compare the game and the manga that was made after the game to...well, I don't even know. Alleviate boredom. And it turned into a hunt for canon to share.

Since Strega usually ends up doing something incredibly spoiler-ish every time they show up, and I don't want to ruin the game for anybody, I couldn't show half the cutscenes they're in. These two are just Strega (meaning Takaya, his boyfriend best bud Jin, and their gothic lolita/virtual radar Chidori) showing up and generally being amoral asses.

First, Strega make their very first appearance. Takaya proves in about three minutes exactly what you should be expecting from Strega by giving a speech about morals and humanity and miscellaneous stuff before gunning somebody down.

This will happen often.

In the manga, well...Takaya learns to use contractions, is less of a creep, and doesn't use the word "squeal" which automatically gives me Deliverance flashbacks. They also know how to make a damn good entrance.

Jin also forgets how to use contractions, and is less of an asshole. Chidori wears exactly one expression ( hint: it's :| ) and says exactly one more word than before, but isn't shown looking around and ostensibly doing her scanning thing, therefore looking much less useful.

This will happen often.

Here, Takaya and Jin meet up with SEES for the first time. Takaya gives another speech, does not shoot someone at the moment, and then leaves while Jin does some potshot bitching at SEES.

In the manga, the two of them show up in suitably dramatic fashion. Again. Takaya proceeds to be weirdly nice(ish), has equally wonky dialogue, and Jin goes overdramatic.

Takaya's speeches get derpier. And isn't as much of a smartass as usual. The manga really doesn't do much justice to Strega, in comparison to the pure creepiness of Takaya's VA and that totally endearing whine in Jin's voice.

Expressions get derpier.

And derpier.

This'd be a really cool panel if Takaya eyes weren't...I don't even know what's wrong with his eyes. His Persona gets introduced three or four months early, because the manga rushes absolutely everything. And yes, that spooky floating bondage monster is Takaya's Persona, Hypnos. And if he doesn't pop his pills, it'll show up and strangle him. Just because. Or go out of control and blow up anything within sight, nuking Takaya in the process. Just because.

It just glows brilliantly on Takaya's mental health, doesn't it.

Not shown: Jin is a ninja and Takaya does absolutely nothing with Hypnos. It mysteriously disappears because the plot calls for it.

So in the end -- the manga is pretty boring, the video game is 100 times better, I hope the eljay cut didn't screw up on me and I need to figure out more things to do. :|
