Hey CnC. I'm just wondering what music/album/song you're listening to at the moment. Right now, I'm listening to a cover of Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf", which I'm pretty sure is the only song anyone remembers by Duran Duran.

It's been awhile since I've listened to them. And I know it shouldn't be, but it feels odd to hear a human cover of those songs.

It's not so strange for it to be odd, I think, if you're used to hearing it one way. I know after I heard this version a few times, I checked out the original vocaloid version and it really raised my hackles for being wrong, even though I usually don't have that sort of reaction to that style of music.

It's odd. I think in a lot of ways, people are both amazed and made terribly uncomfortable by the fact that we're getting to the point where technology can emulate, if not outright create, original works of what we'd consider art, such as music.

I don't understand vocaloid, though! isn't it just a software? how is there a...fandom around it? (also, I'm so curious to know what the original non-human vocaloid version is like now!)

Vocaloid is a synthesized vocal software, yeah. Each "voice" software has a different visual mascot, so what happens a lot of time is when people make vocaloid songs, someone else animates a music video for them—thus, fandom, apparently.

Uh, I think the original vocaloid version of this song is the "GUMI" one? It's weeeeeird in comparison.
