HALP

So. Need to buy a stylus for work. Co-worker has a Wacom Bamboo Pen, he likes it, I'm wondering if there's something better. Since I know there's some peeps here that use them with some regularity...

...any suggestions?

And because that was boring, have a grabby hands gif.

Okay, do you mean a stylus for a tablet or a tablet itself or just one of those mouse-pen-things? Because I know next to nothing about the last other than being pretty sure they exist somewhere. The first two are interrelated.

Oh.

Yeah no that looks like just your normal bamboo tablet.

I don't know as much about bamboo as I do about some others. Bamboo is pretty basic, if you're planning on doing much at all in the srs bsns art sort of vein I'd suggest sliding over to ebay probably and checking out intuos instead. They cost more but are nicer (intuos is what I have and it is my baby and I love it). Cintiq are only for the srs of the srs who also have boatloads of cash that they can fritter wildly away at the drop of an occasion so you really shouldn't worry about them, even if they're amazing and I want one.

But yeah. Bamboo pen tablet or intuos should do you fine, depending on what you're planning to do with it. I'm about 90% sure that olesia has a bamboo or maybe bamboo fun tablet; you could ask her for some more details. Or here's my suggestion, go and youtube it. See it in action, see some reviews, check out if that's what you think you want/need.

It's not for major work, just marking up documents, adding the obligatory LOOK HERE marks on presentations, maybe the occasional doodle.

A guy at work who does similar work suggested the Bamboo, but I know the IT dept is going to want a price comp because they're CHEAP.

I hear people complaining about their bamboo all the time, and serious artists generally avoid it at all costs. However, the issue is that the only other option Wacom has is the Intuos which costs a buttload more, even for the small.

If you can afford it I say go for the Intuos.

OR if you don't mind getting an out of date tablet, on eBay you can usually find Wacom Graphire 4's for cheap. That's what I had before I had to switch and it lasted me a good 4-5 years and I actually still use it at work, though it's a bit faulty nowadays.

I was checking out ebay for intuos3+4 and it looked like there were some that looked like they were in good shape that were like $40 when I checked, and that is with s&h. Of course, I'm sure bidding will drive the prices up, but the fact remains that it would almost certainly still be up to several hundred dollars cheaper than on the website.

Buying used I might be wary about but I don't remember how many new I saw when I looked for some. But if you buy used and you get it with the pen looking good and the wire intact it all should be good. My tablet is only faulty because the pen is falling apart, and I'm too cheap to buy a whole new tablet just for a pen haah

I had a graphire for years and it was perfect for my needs - I agree that ebaying one is a good option!

If you can afford it, I would second Toby and spring for an intuous! I bought one and I absolutely adore the thing to death. The sensitivity is amazing, and the bigger ones are a godsend for people who like to draw big

Yeah, I don't think my IT dept will spring for that. I'll ask, but... a person that I work with (and does similar work to me) uses the Bamboo so... maybe I'll use his to test drive.

Hi this is DQ and I'm late and I am not at C&C anymore but you know who I am AND....

I got an Intuos at NewEgg and it is AWESOME and very worth the money. The little extra goes a long way for the sensitivity, which the Bamboo doesn't have.
