Meyer... [Where has he heard that name. Oh, yes.] An acquaintance of Maiza Avaro's?

I didn't think he would have mentioned me.

I apologize for my tone earlier. It was pretty demanding.

Was it? [He says, dismissively. He's willing to give Czeslaw some leeway here.] Fortunately, I'm not easily offended.

I don't guess you've seen Firo or Ennis around since you've been here?

I'm sorry to say that I haven't. This place would be more tolerable with a few familiar faces around.

[Luck can only hope. Unlike Czes, someone's not used to being without his support structure.]

[Inwardly, Luck debates with himself how much responsibility he can really be expected to take in this situation. If Firo is to be believed, Czeslaw is considerably older than Luck and probably capable of taking care of himself.

On the other hand... he's Ennis's little brother. If only on a technicality.]

[His tone becomes more serious, cautioning:]

This time isn't like what we're used to. It's likely you'll need someone to at least pose as your guardian if you want to be able to come and go when you want.

I've done that before, it's easy. You just tell whoever's asking that your guardian is waiting outside or at your destination.

I'm not sure you'll find it that simple here.

Why not? People are stupid. They'll fall for pretty much anything, right?

If nothing else, I think you'll find yourself inconvenienced if you have to keep finding ways to put off well-meaning meddlers.

My family is on good terms with the Martillos. I'd have to answer to Firo if I didn't offer to help.
