everybody lies

TWO TRUTHS, ONE LIE MEME

✓  Post with your characters listing two true things and something completely fictional about them. These could be accomplishments, their deepest darkest secrets; it doesn't particularly matter just so long as two are true and one is a complete lie.
✓  Other characters respond with guesses as to which is the lie.
✓  Hilarity and shenanigans ensue.  Or possibly deep and meaningful conversations, who knows!
✓  No one is late.

- My sister prompted me to become a doctor.
- Prior to retiring from medicine, I performed a lobotomy despite certain ethical quagmires regarding the procedure.
- I've battled Dracula.

First or second one.

You know when I used to play this game as a young man, everyone always went with Dracula.

It isn't the true one?

It is true. I've simply been using it since I was 25 and I never expected it to become true.

I was dreadful at this game in college, you see.

So I have to figure out which is the lie, then...

I'm not very good at it, either.

I've improved.

... Would you like a hint?

I can tell.

...hm, sure?

My sister died when I was eighteen. I was the only one present when it happened and I was entirely powerless to save her. To say she 'prompted' me might not be entirely accurate, but her death was definitely a factor in my decision.

That's more of an answer than a hint. So was it Dracula or the lobotomy?

And... I'm sorry, Stephen.

It was a long time ago, but thank you.

The lobotomy. I did my residency with a man who pioneered the procedure, but I avoided performing any of them. To physically affect the patient to such a degree with an operation just as likely to leave them incapacitated as it is to be a cure? Unthinkable to me, even then.

I suppose it's shocking enough in retrospect, but I did have something like an ethical code then. Even if I hid it on a day to day basis.
hexappeal: (patpat it's okay.)

That's why I wasn't sure about that one.

As shocking as it can be, you had to make a choice. And you made one. Sometimes you make dumb or odd or what you look back on as... dangerous or immature or painful but all you can do about it is not forget that you did it and try not to repeat your choices. The important part is that you are acknowledging that it was unethical and unthinkable.
