AHAHAH DON'T MIND ME YOU GUYS i just have an extremely lame question to ask you all

a survey if you will

basically if you hang around my plurk, you'll notice that i did a study of fashion for my characters and wordvomited about it.

so uh, what i'm asking is:

what's your characters particular style of fashion? what's their take on clothes? what inspires what they wear and as a mun personally, what do you see them dressing as in terms of colours and whatnot? WORDVOMIT ABOUT CLOTHES YOU GUYS I WANT TO HEAR.

(you should totally do visual media if you want. draw, scribbles, polyvore, wwhatevver. ALSO MY TIMING IS ATROCIOUS)

SOLLUX dresses geek chic at best and slobby nerd at worst. Lots of black+white and red+blue, obviously - often alternating sides if he can get it, or even if he can't because shuttup. He kind of just throws on whatever, since trolls don't curr about fashion at all! Now in humanworld he has a little more variation, but it isn't much. He is hard pressed to wear anything not red, blue or shades.......

LET ME JUST GET THE EASY ONE OUT OF THE WAY: ARADIA GIVES LIKE NO FUCKS ABOUT WHAT SHE WEARS AND MOST OF IT IS BLACK OR MAROON. Because she's a troll, and trolls dontcurr about fashion! She basically has just been wearing her godhoodie around the place, with occasional boring t-shirts and skirts/jeans when she needs to look nonridiculous, and she dressed up for prom because it was an ~adventure~ in trying human dance rituals.

With Lust, if she isn't wearing her typical black dress which you all know and love (??), the name of the game is generally concealment! She tends toward more conservative dresses, at least wrt to the neckline, for this very reason, and if it's any lower than the collarbones she will pretty much always be wearing a scarf or a cardigan or a necklace spirit-glued over her ouroboros or something. She does have an eye for fashion, though, mostly because it's beneficial to her to not look like she dressed herself in the dark or like a refugee from 1915, even if she totally is the latter, and she adheres to that! And she does like to wear nice things on a shallow level that she can either take or leave, so they're her only serious in-game invstment. Basically, there's a lot of long-sleeved, high-necked dresses! Mostly in dark colors; black is obviously her preference but there's probably also a bunch of greys, deep purples, jewel tones, blah blah blah blah blah. Sometimes she even wears pants, but generally she's most comfortable in clothes that resemble her normal outfit, so skirts and dresses are her go-to thing. She likes shoes with heels for the same reason! IT'S SO UNCOMFORTABLE TO WEAR BALLET FLATS YOU GUYS YOU HAVE NO IDEA. BASICALLY THE GAMEPLAN IS "IF IT'S ELEGANT AND IT WILL COVER UP MY BOOB TATTOO I'LL WEAR IT."

Marceline has a weird and haphazard sense of dress which is very teenagery! tbh I think she's either taken a bunch of her canon clothes from like, postapocalyptic landfills or made it herself, and that behavior definitely hasn't stopped once she got into the City, so she basically salvages a lot of shit! She's got like... this weird kids'-show-version-of-a-rebellious-rocker aesthetic. Also, all clothes must fit a walking talking spoon.

KATRUIAN dresses kind of dorky. He will wear sweater-vests (http://media.collegepublisher.com/media/paper332/stills/507nw4e6.jpg), but mostly he sticks to variations on long-sleeved (http://geraint-lewis.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/THE-PILLOWMAN/G0000HgxnKqwRCkM/I0000sSPQu4HszpM/P00004syYSilDB90/) dress (http://www.repstl.org/images/production_history/pillowman/the_pillowman12_medium.jpg) shirts (http://www.emmajaster.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/dsc00320.JPG) in a variety of colors and patterns (like plaid (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_baTLoDzJ5kY/SmjbZbElkDI/AAAAAAAAAFg/SafDK6HEmDY/s400/pillowman+onw.jpg)), even in the summer. He rarely wears t-shirts, and if he does, it's solid color and he's not in public. Sometimes he wears ties! Fuck you normal society, he's walking to the beat of a business casual drum! (Thank you, google Katurians, for helping me make my point. ESPECIALLY YOU, SWEATER-VEST KATURIAN.)

THE NARRATOR has less of a white shirt and tie (http://www.leavemethewhite.com/caps/displayimage.php?album=130&pos=17) thing going on here than in canon, except now... that he's working again... I suppose. He's been trying to make his wardrobe more casual, and it's a slow-moving endeavor because he's also trying not to buy clothing. In a way, he has a similar fashion sense as in Katurian in that he wears a lot of collared (http://www.leavemethewhite.com/caps/displayimage.php?album=130&pos=729) shirts (http://www.leavemethewhite.com/caps/displayimage.php?album=130&pos=776) (and oh look, red plaid (http://www.leavemethewhite.com/caps/displayimage.php?album=130&pos=871)), but he's not afraid to wear a t-shirt and he wouldn't be caught dead in a sweater-vest.

CAVIL only wears (http://www.frak-that.com/420/images/420_0787.jpg) black (http://www.frak-that.com/301/images/301_cap182.jpg) because, you know, frak colors. Frak them all to hell. And then he wears a fedora (http://www.frak-that.com/312/images/312_cap474.jpg). (Sometimes, he doesn't wear black so that he can instead look like an evil Indiana Jones. (http://www.frak-that.com/312/images/312_cap369.jpg))

Okay I'm doing way too much work for what amounts to boring-ass clothes, so:

Thor's genius disguise for his alter ego is a Mets hat, a white t-shirt, a very thin shirt jacket in a drab color like gray, jeans (the manly loose kind), and thoroughly scuffed boots. He looks like a construction guy. He hopes.

Much has been said elsewhere about what a hip hip hipster Daken is, so there you go. He likes waistcoats. And hats. And arm-thingies.

Gamzee basically just wears what he has now and alternates between other black t-shirts and he's got other pairs of sweat pants with some variations in polka dots. He's only really interested in deviating from this pattern when he wants to wear something more clowny, he wants to sort of disguise himself, or he's just killed someone and he's decided to take some of their clothes as part of his trophy collection.

Basically this kid has no fashion sense and he'll never get into anything nice unless someone else makes him.

Woops, this wasn't finished.

Anyway, Gamzee wears this stuff just because he likes wearing blacks and grays and really has no fashion sense to speak of. He wears his trophy clothing since he likes to intimidate people with it (Wearing the clothes of someone's dead friends is pretty creepy) and it shows he's tough.

Zevran is used to medieval fantasy clothing, so he's had to make a lot of adjustments coming here. But he really likes fine materials that feel nice, especially leather. He always wears leather boots, and when he can get away with it he'll go for leather pants too. But he knows he usually can't get away with it (unless he's going to a gay bar), so he sticks with jeans and a nice leather belt most of the time. Leather gloves if he can get away with those, fingerless leather gloves if he can't get away with full ones. Silk shirts, because silk feels nice--usually in shades of red or gold.

Basically, he dresses like a complete fucking tool, but he can pull it off with easily charmed natives because he's exotic and has a foreign accent.

[livejournal.com profile] prodigitalson likes practicality and austerity. Before his canon update, he dressed in white suits with blue and black highlights a lot to help establish his ~presence~ and be more intimidating, and also to resemble his head of state outfit from home. Now he really doesn't want to be intimidating, so he's probably going to make some terrible abortive attempts to dress down in jeans and t-shirts, get horribly embarrassed, and go back to wearing suits. He'll probably wear a blue scarf/shawl over it all so he can cling to it nervously and feel like he's hiding behind it. He can roll with Eridan in the nervous scarf-biting corner.

[livejournal.com profile] arachnopho8ia doesn't give a shit! She wears a black t-shirt with a cerulean Scorpio sign on it, jeans or slacks, and sometimes a jacket with lots of pockets.

WELL. I have made a few (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=27532858) polyvore (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=27889702) sets for Himuro before! She generally prefers casual, non-feminine/'butch' clothing. Most of her clothes are monochrome or dark colored. Lots of jeans, flat shoes/sneakers. Most of her formal clothes are suits, she owns one dress and one kimono(from New Years in Japan). She loves looking at fashion magazines(guilty secret) and she loves shopping, but she's pretty frugal so she won't buy many new things. But she covets sleek designer lady suits like crazy. Her accessories are mostly necklaces or bracelets/watches..she doesn't have her ears pierced.

Man this is a lot of words!! I have a lot of headcanon for this for some reason!!

Terra's fashion sense is KINDA DUMB. Admittedly, her seven million variations on the red dress do not usually look bad :

(though I will say the red top/booty short combo is kinda weird)

Alternate outfits?

Look good in art, but don't always translate super-well into the real world. Or into 3D renders. Dissidia.

So clothing-wise, she does not really blend into the modern era all that well. Her clothes are often over-embellished, cloaks are ridiculous and fancy, and there's always a lot of leg being shown off, though she usually does wear (again, obtusely fancy embroidered) leggings. The "how many scarves/shawls/wraps can I hang around my hips" is still definitely a thing she does; it is to hide her secret Liefeld Pouches, since she still carries around an obscene amount of stuff and doesn't do purses.

SPOILER my characters are boring.

Tony wears primarily suits. If he's not in something classy as shit, he's wearing khakis and a t-shirt. Khakis is the equivalent of dumpy jeans and a t-shirt. If he's busy building, he's probably in some sort of cargos for the pockets, and a tank top. And of course, a good portion of his day and night is spent naked and he's totally cool with that.

Mara wears leather and catsuits. All the time forever. Occasionally, she won't want to stand out, and she'll wear something more casual, but she really loves the mobility of her usual fare and hasn't bothered trying out too many earth styles.

Mitch is in a suit about 90% of his waking day. If he's actually not working, it's jeans and a white t-shirt.

Allison is pretty much a punk, and sticks to jeans and a t-shirt most of the time when she's not in public. If she's out for school or something, she prefers nicer tops, but it's pretty much prep-clothes. Blame Jessica. She's been dressing nicer since they started hanging out.

Illidan wears... well. Just a pair of pants. And that's it (http://images.wikia.com/wowwiki/images/d/d6/Illidan.jpg). Forever. He doesn't even own a second pair of pants.

Megamind wears...leather and spikes. Always. He tries out a white spandex supercostume every now and then, but he's pretty much wholly partial to wearing leather with high or popped collars, righteous shoulder pads, and lots and lots of spikes. Some people just like dressing like a villain even if they aren't a villain anymore

Well, Oda's drawn him ten years straight with just ripped jeans and a simple vest (http://i.imgur.com/2qKQi.png). He changes his vest colors, but that's it! He accessorizes sometimes, which is basically when he thinks an armband or a simple bracelet is cool enough to wear for a day.

He wears a lot of red, blues, and yellows mixed in. His timeskip outfit (http://i.imgur.com/jQKRd.png) has the most 'accessories' I've ever seen? Which is just a yellow sash around his jeans as a weird belt. It's canon that he can't dress himself and everyone but Zoro and Chopper tells him what to wear/picks out most of his outfits if he needs to change?

Sanji took him clothes shopping and Luffy's pretty much wearing the same clothes: finding cut-off jeans (http://i.imgur.com/pqPpE.jpg) and probably some nicer alternatives (http://i.imgur.com/IRAm8.jpg). Luffy still wears sandals like a bro.. and goes shirtless, but he probably wears something very loose (http://i.imgur.com/TahhB.jpg) if he has to. With or without the shirt at times, LMAO.

Other shirts would be simple plaid shirts (http://i.imgur.com/tJSi8.jpg) and even basics (http://i.imgur.com/yViz9.jpg). Yep. He's a surprisingly simple guy and he's already got a look so might as well stick to it! Also he hears his straw hat 24/7.

Also he'll wear bracelets (http://i.imgur.com/IFFM9.jpg) from time to time.

Caas has a varied wardrobe consisting of black tank tops, black jogging pants, black exercise shorts, and blue jeans. Basically, anything that doesn't restrict movement is fair game, so long as it's black. The exception is that she tends to wear purple hoodies and jackets every now and then, and my explanation is that she steals them from Steph.

Hellboy wears the exact same thing all the time: black shorts and a brown trenchcoat.

Matsuka dresses pretty simply most of the time. Jeans, solid-color shirts - like a polo shirt or turtleneck or sweater, oversized jackets in cooler weather. He probably has some really loud sweaters thanks to Bakura. Always very neat, which is what happens when you've spent years of your life wearing nothing but regulation uniforms.

Luck: ALL BROWN THREE-PIECE SUITS ALL THE TIME, no exceptions. He loses the coat and waistcoat and loosens up the tie when he's kicking back and relaxing but that's about it. He dresses for his role and by now it's what he's comfortable in.

Squall developed his standard mode of dress specifically as part of an effort to project the image of a tough, self-sufficient, unapproachable loner. Secondary to that: stuff he can fight in and that will hold up to abuse. Thus, he wears almost exclusively black and white, his black leather jacket with white fur collar, black gloves, too many belts, combat boots, silver jewelry. On days when he's actually feeling comfortable enough he might possibly skip most of the trappings and go with jeans (blue or black) and a plain t-shirt (white, grey, or black). Very little variation beyond that because he has very little imagination, although he's also reasonably comfortable in military uniform and will wear one if the situation calls for it.

I'M LATE AS FUCK BUT WHATEVER
i would've done it before work but by the time i was done doodling there was no time to write commentary :c
pardon the shitty drawing

Vic largely wears two- and three-piece suits. Vintage suits, with like a 60s, 70s cut to them, and generally pretty closely fitted. I have a few examples saved on polyvore. His shirts often add a little color to the ensemble, be they orange, lavender, light blue, pale green, or just white, whichever one would best complement the color of the suit. He rolls up his sleeves any time he's not wearing a jacket, and, rare though it may be unless he's in especially casual circumstances, unbuttons the collar when he doesn't have a tie. The fedora happens sometimes, doesn't happen other times.

When he's going super casual, he might wear jeans instead of slacks. Maybe even a t-shirt with a brown leather jacket. If he wants to look a tool to troll someone while being incognito, as has happened before, a muscle shirt and baseball cap is an option. Turtleneck sweaters have been observed in winter.

The closest he's ever come to an actual costume, rather than just color-changed clothes, was a number something like this:

Black sexysuit with blue gloves and boots, then his fedora and a blue funnel-collard jacket over it. It was awesome.

Hank wears that one on the left almost always. He has a few different variations in colors, like brown, yellow, black, and maybe a dark green. Things that don't clash too terrible with his fur. Whether it's a necktie or a bowtie is a toss-up, he can go with either option.

For formal wear, he has an assortment of snazzy tuxedoes he ordered from the tailors James Bond pointed him to upon arrival. He got a special one for Angelica and Pietro's wedding.

Hideous is the name of the game when it comes to casualwear. This is why he always wears the suits. Shitty sweatshirts, shittier sleeveless sweatshirts, wife-beaters, and the occasional no-shirt. For pants it's often shorts, cut-offs, bullshit. And without those slimming vests, the chub starts getting more obvious.

His pince-nez are ever present, any shoes are ever absent.

All of these outfits on Alex are like simplified sketches of canon outfits. Adrian Alphona was good at this shit. He mostly wears t-shirts, but rarely on their own. Hoodies, short-sleeve overshirts, long-sleeve undershirts are usually the name of the game.

I figure he probably tends more toward khakis over jeans, though in more colors than just...khaki. Highwaters and long shorts aren't out of the question.

He has one white double-breasted suit, his hell-suit, the one he arrived in, that he saves for special occasions. He especially uses it any time he practices magic, as if it were ceremonial garb. He feels the significance he puts in it, and perhaps its place of origin, may make it a component itself to any ritual.

TO BE CONTINUED BECAUSE WOW I'M LONG-WINDED ON THIS

Kanaya's sense of fashion can be best described as High Femme. She may not own a single pair of trousers, and if she does, it's almost never warn. She likes skirts, dresses (especially sundresses), and gowns. She's also rather fond of leggings and sashes and cute bows.

She does a lot of outfitting via trial and error, collecting patterns she's seen here or there and making garments out of them, then tossing them together to see what works. Colorful outfits are a plus, though she likes using jade green as a base most of all (and often accents it with red, black and/or white, but certainly that's not all).

Every outfit has a Virgo symbol featured prominently, maybe as a clasp, or a buckle, or a broach, or maybe a patch she'd sewn on. She's got a million accessories with them lying around. She prefers flat slip-ons for footwear, sometimes even ballet flats just because. Though she also likes wedge-heeled open-toed shoes.

She also has one particular purple skirt of a familiar shade, with a bow at the hip and a long ribbon trailing of it. She washed all the blood out of that fucking cape before she repurposed it, of course.

Generally Kiryu's clothes are in blue, black, or dark red, and picked more for comfort than fashion. Somewhere in Peru last year, he did find this awesome coat, though he wore it more during the winter. But everything he owns is pretty much black and blue with a bit of red thrown it. (I'm sure he kept his Team Sat outfit, but he sure as heck hasn't morn it in months). Actually, he dresses not unlike my PB for him, just, you know, with a lot less white.

When he's out clubbing or working at Dancitron, it's a much nicer version of the blue and black, or even just his Dark Signer uniform. Most of the time, he's in that form anyway.

He does have one other outfit that he uses when he doesn't want anyone to know it's him (like when the Decepticons held up a bank in 2009), which is all white and very light blue and has a very nice cape with a hood. It has pretty much been retired by now, but who knows, maybe he'll have to use it again.

He also has a Shinsengumi haori that he wears occasionally. And his sword and a deck case. And usually his hair is up (as opposed to down like in his icons).

James is pretty normal really. He's fashionable and expensive without making himself stand out too much. The suits are the obvious one, usually tailor made and super expensive but when he's not wearing those, he tends to go for clean and simple that are fairly British, stuff like polo-shirts and cardigans, shirts but no tie and top few buttons open, and trousers are more often than not jeans or linen or something similar. And if he's on a job the requires even less effort for fashion, he'll literally go for jeans and t-shirt. Shoes are generally good wearing ones that are comfortable and totes trendy.

There is a website that lists off all his clothing and it's makes and shit, which would have been easier than typing this.

elaborate infographic of natasha limited by my artistic inabilities

Bucky dresses retro without looking hip. He likes slacks and button down shirts and also leather jackets....... he places great emphasis on personal tidiness and not so much colors clashing or not.

Loki likes weird impractical hats and the color green.

I wish I could sketch like you beautiful people. You are stuck with my tl;dr instead.

Harley's style is something like 80% sexy and 20% adorable, resulting in the fact that she will never wear "age appropriate" clothing ever. It's like she's been designed and drawn by some horny comic book artists or something.

It's summer now and the majority of her wardrobe is officially short-shorts. She does have tights and jeans for when it gets cooler, as well as some purdy dresses. And possibly a schoolgirl outfit. But yeah, lots of cut-offs. She's also strangely practical when it comes to deciding on the right pair of shoes and when to wear them, save that she thinks it's okay to wear rollerskates everywhere. She likes cute hats and I have the suspicion she would be jealous of Molly Hayes. She enjoys clothes with the stray smiley face, rainbow, or Pokemon rip-off on them. She tends to buy real faux fur and genuine knock-off handbags for special occasions. She has literally decided against outfits before because they "weren't gauche enough". Aaaaaaand she tends to wear her signature black and red most often, but she does wear other colors. Pink pops up here and there. Also her experiments with wearing a vest with fingerless gloves were kind of interrupted when she was ported into the City but try again later.

Abe dresses like your grandpa (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=33546469) when he's not dress in this (http://oi51.tinypic.com/1426mhk.jpg) or this (http://oi55.tinypic.com/2iudrsz.jpg). He prefers loose clothing as its easier for his armfins and legfins to... well. Fit. He also carries cigars and a flask of scotch with him most of the time. Like a real man. A real fishman.

Baroona dresses like so (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=33545692). Baggy pants or shorts, striped or solid shirts. Dark or neutral colors. He prefers to wear shirts with sleeves in order to hide his tattoo, but when it gets too hot he caves and goes sleeves.

Zoro has one two outfits and the first one is this (http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/7/78698/1538688-new_zoro__super.jpg) and the second one is probably even more shirtless than the first.
