AHAHAH DON'T MIND ME YOU GUYS i just have an extremely lame question to ask you all

a survey if you will

basically if you hang around my plurk, you'll notice that i did a study of fashion for my characters and wordvomited about it.

so uh, what i'm asking is:

what's your characters particular style of fashion? what's their take on clothes? what inspires what they wear and as a mun personally, what do you see them dressing as in terms of colours and whatnot? WORDVOMIT ABOUT CLOTHES YOU GUYS I WANT TO HEAR.

(you should totally do visual media if you want. draw, scribbles, polyvore, wwhatevver. ALSO MY TIMING IS ATROCIOUS)

VI has by and large resisted the franchising trend (and I liked VI!Advance) and yeah, I don't think anything is planned but. C'mon. Who are we talking about. Fear of some new port is always a rational fear. I have bought FFIV five different times now.

KH2 Setzer also acted incredibly dumb. And I love his sprite :( FF doesn't have a whole lot of excessive boobage in general, really, especially compared to the wider gaming world, but yeah... panty shots :| Especially given the dearth of female representation in Dissidia in general.

Zebra print belongs only to Locke!!

Oh god I don't even want to know how many times I've gotten each game. It's got to be at least three for both four and six by now.

I only managed to play KH1 (in that I got to the final boss, then wondered why I had bothered completing the game when I didn't enjoy any of it), so I don't actually know how he was characterized in 2. But KH doesn't really have a great track record of keeping the FF characters in-character, so I probably shouldn't be too surprised. Jeez, I haven't even personally played Dissidia, but I think at this point I could write an essay on Just How Badly the female characters get treated in that. (Especially considering for 012: hey guys, we see that we only had, well, pretty much just Terra for playable female characters the first round, unless you like unlocking stuff, so in the sequel we will give you a bunch! But all of them die at the end of the game.)

TOO LATE, LOCKE. THE ZEBRA PRINT HAS ALREADY BEEN COMMANDEERED INTO AN AWFUL SKIRT THING!!

I rented KH2 specifically for Setzer, he is at the very beginning as some kind of LORD OF THE BALLS. He's boss of the minigame where you beat people up with foam bats and collect the balls that pop out of them. But he asks the protagonist (this being like a 12yo kid because heeey Kingdom Hearts) to throw the match in his favor and that he'll make it worth your while if you do.

Which is like... wat...

Yeah and it super duper frustrates me because I like a lot of women in the FF series? I just wrote a bunch of tl;dr about my side eye of people who say Celes is not a "strong enough" female character. So y you do this FF?

... Wow Setzer, that is pretty sad. I think I read somewhere that in one of the random other, not-in-actual-gameplay-but-somewhere-else areas of one of the Dissidias, they actually make fun of Setzer's KH characterization.

... what. Seriously? Why would anyone think that? Celes was amazing! Even her post-apocalyptic depression was handled pretty well! Are they just mad that her character arc was tied to a love story or something?

Well it deserves making fun of. I decided that KH2 was where he went in the WoR and when Edgar/Celes find him that is why he is drinking.

>Are they just mad that her character arc was tied to a love story or something?

BINGO. It doesn't matter how like, that particular love story totally and specifically dismantles a lot of gender-based heroic fantasy stereotypes. I could see the argument that "even though it is well handled, it's still problematic that it's still a love story" except all of FFVI is a love story and the game gives pretty clear examples of other-than-romantic love??

Hahahahahaha it is the best reason to be found drinking.

Yeah! That is pretty much the theme of the whole game. I mean, personally, I'm really glad that the story gave the romantic love plot to Celes rather than Terra, considering the types of characters they are and their specific character drives.

Yeah, I agree. I'm really glad Terra didn't get a love interest. I also really like that the theme of the game is love, instead of just killing things and stopping evil?? Strength is about more than carrying a giant sword around and acting stoic. And they did a lot to show the power of platonic and familial relationships along with the romance plotline so. It isn't like Terra's plotline is a minor afterthought compared to Celes's, either. Or that Celes's plotline is minor in compared to Locke's?? I admit that three women PCs out of fourteen isn't inspiring, but it balances out somewhat since two of them get big roles. And that they are cool and three-dimensional and really useful in game, too.

Yeah, exactly. It's probably why six is still one of my favorite games -- all the characters, even the more minor ones, have character arcs that tie together with the overall theme of the game, and both main lead female characters are top-tier characters. Plus their specials (Morph, Runic) are practically game-breakers compared to most of the mens' skills.

Hah hah yeah. It's kind of sad that things haven't progressed much from there :|a

Celes and Terra both get points because I can't use Sabin's special at all. I am terribad at it.

If they haven't degressed; Terra's arc in Dissidia was just... so pathetic.

Oh man, I used to be awful at it too, until I realized for the diagonals you could just hit one of the straight keys instead of trying to do the d-pad roll. I don't even want to think about how many years it took me to figure that out.
