I think it does mean "I piloted" in the way you meant it to.

Well it means "piloted" without the I, and kind of like "was piloting" but yeah!!

lol I took so many years of French and you cannot tell.

I have to admit, I'm a little impressed with myself I managed to get that close since the only French I know is "omelette du fromage" and "voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir". Clearly I have too much time on my hands.
