[The relief was visible in his expression as well; not that he didn't trust her to take care of herself, of course, but there was a moment when he'd wondered if she'd forgotten to switch her icon over in the last Game.]
No, I haven't. I didn't want to try unless I knew for sure. You know as well as I do, once you ReBoot you become a target. I didn't want to get into something I couldn't win.
[She gets to the Porter building, and opens the door slowly]
[It wasn't that she was unsure of herself. She knew she could survive. But she was being cautious. This didn't feel right. Her instinct told her this was different.
There he was. All doubts vanished. She smiles at him, heading over.]
Hey.
[And she looks around before looking back at him]
I guess it's just you and me. No sign of Frisket on my end either.
Good idea. There hasn't been any sign of one, but maybe if we track down whoever made these communicators.
[She'd speak up if getting out of here on the next Game didn't sound like a good idea. But first things first- Frisket. Leaving here without him was just not going to happen. She walks with him out of the Porter building]
[They fall into step with another, exiting the building without so much as a glance back. Matrix kept both eyes forward, scanning the tall sihoulettes of buildings and sporadic crowds of people ahead. Some sort of Urban System, it seemed. And big.]
[As they walked, his gaze flickered back over to his lover.]
How much do you remember about the way we got here? Honestly...my head's still a little fuzzy on that right now.
We were playing Fairway Frolics. You got hit on the head with a renegade golf ball and clocked out before you could ReBoot. After you woke up, I was about to finish the Game, and the next thing I knew I was in that room.
[She motions behind her to the Porter Building]
Without you and without Frisket.
[She shakes her head a moment]
...It doesn't add up. I guess my memory is as fuzzy as yours.
[Well, at least their memories matched up. That was the last thing he could recall as well; his hand went to his forehead, where he could still feel the bump that stupid golf ball had caused. That would explain why he was still hazy. But not AndrAIa.]
Fairway Frolics was a stupid game.
Obviously, this is where it dropped us off after you won. But what that doesn't explain is how we could've been Registered so quickly.
[ AndrAIa didn't remember sinking the 18th hole, even though she was going to win- the Game wasn't over. Her disorientation of whether this was a Game or not was what she started off wondering when she arrived here. Maybe she didn't remember winning because she was brought here before Matrix. But that meant this was something else, and she couldn't figure out what]
This place doesn't feel right...
[She knows that there's no use getting stuck on the negative. Especially since Matrix recently changed his attitude around. Her expression softened.]
Whatever this is, I'm sure we can find our way out of it. What does Glitch say?
I think I love you right now
Looks to me like the System's main Port.
[And then his voice softens:]
You alright?
I love you moar <3
I just left there... I'll be there in a nano.
[She nods]
I'm fine. Just. Confused. I still haven't figured out if this is a Game or a new System...
lies
It doesn't seem like a Game. Certainly not any we've encountered before.
[Then again, it wouldn't be the first time he'd had difficulty distinguishing between the two. Dream or no dream.]
Have you tried ReBooting?
no subject
[She gets to the Porter building, and opens the door slowly]
Matrix?
no subject
You and I both know there isn't a User this side of the Supercomputer you can't--
[And then her voice comes from behind, and he cuts himself off mid-sentence.]
Over here.

Maybe he saw a Null.
He couldn't've gotten far.

[She seems amused for a moment.]
Maybe we should check this place out. I tried scoping things out on my own, but once I got started that's when I heard from you through this thing.
[She motions to the comm]
Whatever this place is- they seemed to have registered us. That's kind of why I've been leaning towards this place being a System.
no subject
Registered or not, this isn't Mainframe. Soon as we find Frisket, we're catching the next Game out of here.
[It never dawns on him to ask her, of course. She's never argued with him before. Why should now be any different?]
If this is a System, then there should be a command-dot-com. We could get some answers from them.

[His eyes narrowed.]
I don't like this.
