okay these are both tentative because idk if i could handle a fourth at the moment, but if i ever could, it would be one of these ladies:



the first is faiza hussain, aka excalibur, from captain britain and the mi-13! she is a super awesome muslim pakistani-british superhero who has magic healing powers and also a magic sword. she is also a superhero fangirl and doctor.

+ her canon is super short and review for it is easy
+ she's adorable and friendly and would probably talk to everyone
+ her powers are super cool

- short canon means not much to draw from if i ever run out of inspiration



the second is betty ross, aka the red she-hulk, aka bruce banner's ex-wife and thunderbolt ross's daughter. she was dead, but now she's not, and also she is a hulk and went to spain to run with the bulls recently. she got a bigass sword from that stupid event we don't speak of and now she goes around enjoying life.

+ stupid origins aside, i am really in love with her character
+ terry dodson is drawing her for the foreseeable future
+ delicious drama

- matt fraction writes her home series
- i would have to go back and read all her old betty ross stuff, which i'm not adverse to doing, but it would take awhile
- um her origin story is literally the dumbest thing ever

Which part of the origin, the Red She-Hulkery? "Fall of the Hulks" was actually a lot of fun, and introduced the best bad guy team ever: The Intelligentsia. Then again, I'm a huge Hulk nerd and MODOK and the Leader teaming up is the best possible thing, especially when Doom is included.

I might also suggest a good chunk of Peter David's run, particularly in the Smart Hulk phases when Betty was pretty interesting dealing with the idea that her husband was always gonna be Hulky. And before that, thinking he was dead, she almost joined a convent. Fun stuff!

I think the plot itself was cool, but some of the stuff concerning Betty in particular was a little off, for me! Particularly the "oh let me rip off Domino's clothes and put them on" bit. Like, as a construct I liked what it was and what it did, but looking at it from her pov some moments are just like "what..."

Oh, and thanks for that!! I will definitely look into it.

Oh, the "Code Red" stuff? I didn't read that, so I'm sure you're right on that score. It wasn't until Fall of the Hulks Alpha that I allowed myself to like any redness of hulkage, because it wasn't until then that they seemed to know who the characters were going to turn out to be. I wanted Jeph Loeb to stop it and stop it a lot and blah blah fanboy kvetching.

Being an unrepentant Bruce/Betty dork, I was constantly wary of how Betty was being handled in various places, but I could always eventually talk myself into rationalizing it as 'her head's been messed with, she's been dead, and she's kinda drunk on the power.' Pak had a whole arc (the Tyrannus thing) where that metaphor was driven home.

Anyway, I'll shut up now that I've had a chance to blurt out my Hulk geekery.

I'm actually super impressed with how they've handled her, for the most part, because I think it's one of those things that could have been so horrible but actually ended up being good? So I can shrug off the worse moments and appreciate the good stuff, which is nice.

And nerdage of any sort is always appreciated.
