While it does sound like we're here for a reason, it isn't the way it sounds. If we're needed for something, it's yet to be revealed. [She puts a hand on his shoulder, sliding it around back to give him the smallest of pushes.] Let's walk and talk.

No need to apologize. [He could do just about anything right now and she'd be fine with it. She's just glad she can see him again.]

My place is a ways away. There's a good pastry shop around here, though.

You know, people say that a lot. But most of them don't mean it.

[It's an idle comment, the sort of thing that comes from spending far too much time alone. You can tell he doesn't mean much by it by the way he grins at the mention of pastry.]

I don't disagree. You know what words mean to people like ourselves, though. Unless I have a reason to, I don't lie. Especially not about something so trivial.

[Still, she tries to reassure him. As lovely as it was to have him here before, the last time she had seen him in her own world still leaves a bitter (and perhaps a little sour) taste in her mouth. There was too much going on and she should have, maybe, been a little more firm with him and tried to explain herself better. Magic was about trial and error, but he hadn't really had anyone else at that time...]

Good thing they have sandwiches. Sweets on an empty stomach aren't always the best idea.

With all this dragging people between worlds, you'd think they'd give us lunch. Like they do on airplanes. But no one ever thinks about it.

Ah, well, those dog tags you were given? They come with a stipend. Not lunch, but not all that bad. Unfortunately, you can be tracked through them, so I'm going to have to ask you to throw them off somewhere.

Time's odd here. It seems to stand still back home and you don't remember being here, either. I went back for a few months about a year ago. About a week had passed here. It was disorienting.

While that sort of thing has become more commonplace in my life over the past few decades, I don't think I ever quite get used to it. I'd like to go home, but I'd want to have my memories intact. And I'd want a choice.
