IT'S TIME FOR DIPPING STICKS AND...

TEST DRIVE MEME
Are you thinking about apping to to Cape & Cowl, but you want to get a feel of the setting and how your character will fit in it? Then you’ve come to the right place! Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, and don’t be afraid to throw yourself at anyone’s thread, either!
And remember to have fun!
1. As you exit the Porter Building, the ambient noises you heard, so faint back inside where you found yourself at the center of glowing platform alone – save for the black screen and the female voice who greeted you – erupt in every direction. Every corner you look is bustling with people and cars and bicycles; people going about their everyday life, unaware you’re one of them: an imPort.
2. Or perhaps your bizarre behaviour or appearance catches their attention. Maybe it’s the communicator you picked up before leaving. Either way, several Cityzens headed your way come to a full stop immediately, each one eyeing you differently. Some looks outright afraid, others seem intrigued, and then there are the others whose surprise fades quickly and they carry on past you without as much a second glance.
3. Confused? The Network seems like a good place to start with soliciting information. There appear to be three functions for you to access: AUDIO, VIDEO, and TEXT. Make some friends while you’re at it!
4. Maybe you’re just thrilled to be here and help. The night time is a great time to scope out the underbelly of the City and its criminals. There’s always something going on in its more troubled corners: breaking and entering, drugs or arms trafficking, an attempting kidnapping... the list goes on. The question is: what will you do, Hero?
5. Make up your own scenario, if you wish! You may have discovered the Porter has granted you the ability to make it hail cats. Or that your power of super speed is gone entirely. Maybe you’ve noticed the Statue of Liberty’s sporting a new look. It’s up to you!

His doctorate meant so little here.]
And yet, I can't help but be wary of our companions. As you might imagine, I haven't made many friends among them.
so buttmad, frederick. hannibal's gonna run out of baby powder.
[He's adapted as he should and is better for it, if he wants to read between the lines (and read what he wants to, of course). There's nothing wrong with buttering him up (oh dear) a little when he's certain that Will is one of the reasons he's already chapped.]
And you needn't be friends to let things from the past remain there. It's difficult to adapt, this much is certain. It will be much more difficult if you allow those that provide familiarity to give you distress. I would advise you to endeavor otherwise, and let yourself be less burdened because of it
more chef than chafe
This isn't quite New York. There's a dissonance to the streets, they don't quite align. [Not like he's spent much time in New York City, mind, but he did a bit of Network research.]
appease and feed, what better friend to have?
Will Grahamcrazy to not be appeased!]I wouldn't consider your ignorant.
[Isn't that a good thing, someone as reputable and outstanding as Hannibal considering Frederick to be enlightened? He hopes he takes it as much.]
No, it's completely new. You could compare it, but they aren't the same. It takes some time to adjust, I assure you, but I can't imagine you wouldn't be able to adapt.
exactly
[He looks off-camera, his regret evident in that lonesome moment.]
You had just entertained me for dinner, before I came here. And now the seasons are completely in opposition.
http://i.imgur.com/00hFPhD.gif so glad you agree
Ah, yes, I remember that. It wasn't too long ago when I was pulled here, but not much of interest passed in between then and the night I went to bed before I found myself here. It was odd, the change of seasons you've mentioned. But, really, I must be honest: it is the least of this place's oddness.
You should know, also, that I'll entertain you for dinner whenever you'd like. And, of course, help you find your seat a desk befitting a man of your status. You've earned it, no matter where you find yourself.

Frederick Chilton did not like his housing at the MAC. He didn't dare spend any additional time there, hence his impromptu and fairly unfortunate immediate setting.]
Who did you have to kill for an appropriate apartment?
[Spoken obviously like a joke, and his own meager smile betrays that much.]
no subject
[Look, Hannibal is just a funny guy. No one else gets the jokes, but that doesn't mean they're not funny. What's wrong with laughing to himself about the stuff he says? Nothing, right?
Not that he'd ask Chilton for insight into the human mind in a way other than making sure he agreed with Hannibal. It would be rude not to agree with him. And also wrong, because Hannibal's always right. He just needs to hear it from time to time, okay.]
I made connections, Frederick. Connections you now have as well. We'll get you out of that place and into a job befitting a man like you. Agreeable?
[hey so you just came to a new world and i'm here
and this is crazy
but agree with me and i'll make all your dreams come true no maybe]
no subject
That I like.
[Just in case Will and Gideon were listening in, that was all for them.]
Your ability to make connections like so is uncanny, Hannibal. Fascinating adaptability. [Jokingly:] It's a shame you're so sane, I'd love to study that.
[OHOHOHOHOO.]
The first of many agreeable things, indeed.

We're old friends, Frederick. I would assume that means you like me. [He better like him. Hannibal showed him grapes and camaraderie, after all. Who doesn't like trivial information about grapes?
And someone they can be an oily bastard around without fear of being called out on it, but grapes.] I must confess I do not know as much about the institution you're asking after as you might think I should. I've gone back to surgery since I've come here, so I have little to do with psychiatric care. It interests me still, of course, but I've taken back to caring for the body. I apologize if my knowledge is limited and seemingly too little, considering the career of mine you are most familiar with.
no subject
I won't deny my affinity, Hannibal. It's rare that someone in our profession is -- [morally unsound enough] open-minded enough to understand that circumstance of case study should dictate procedure. I'm still grateful for your support on that matter.
[But it's that second bit of information that gives him pause.]
Surgery? Why the change of heart?
no subject
Really. He so does.]
I found myself with a new set of gifts that related to the body and not the mind. I took it as a sign to go back to the work I started with, and it's served me well.
There's a good team of psychiatrists here already, from what I have been told. If you join them, it will be even better.
[He tosses it like it's not flattery, like it's nothing more than fact.
Even though it's pretty much the opposite, in Hannibal's opinion.]
no subject
A new set of gifts? [Now, there's plenty of talk about "superpowers" newly found by each and every individual -- it's not always apparent from newcomers, but eventually people discover their talents. Chilton has searched for the empirical evidence, at least along the Network. So he isn't disbelieving -- and with Hannibal, he's barely skeptical.
But curious? Oh yeah, he's curious.]
The sort more adept to surgery, then? Did that alarm you?
[Digging for details, he is.]
no subject
Gifts, yes. Or, as they call them here, powers.
[Did it alarm him? Of course it did. But then it turned out to be pretty profitable and good for everyone involved (really it's good for other people, not bad in any way!!!! Hannibal wouldn't hurt a fly unless it was doing the backstroke in his soup!! REALLY) so it wasn't so bad.
But what in the world would Chilton be gifted with? Nothing? Because that would be the cherry on top of the cake and so fitting for him.
Not that Hannibal thinks poorly of him, of course. Chilton is his BFF. Really.]
It took me by surprise, certainly. But it ended up being beneficial to the injured and myself if I have trouble chopping something in the kitchen, [read: it never happens but he'll let people think he's human] so what alarm there was was replaced with relief, in all honesty.
[And glee, but it's not exactly Hannibal's thing to start talking about how happy he is.]
no subject
OR SISTER.]
A healing technique? [Chilton pauses, considering the content of that context. Quite obviously, Chilton is a doctor who doesn't give a shit about healing patients, or helping patients -- which is why he's such an unfit psychiatrist. It's just not as profitable, making them all well again. Cracking their psychoses is one thing, but if they've been rehabilitated then they're no longer in his hospital, and no longer under his power and...]
Quite interesting.
[Sort of spent a moment just staring off into the tangential distance there.]

WOW CHILTON YOU WANT HANNIBAL SO BADLY YOU'D GET POWERS BASED ON HOW YOU COULD FUCK WITH HIM BUT HA-HA-HA MISCHA ISN'T HERE YET THIS IS A NO MISCHA ZONE THIS IS A HANNIBAL RISING NEVER HAPPENED
EVER
ZONE
but hannibal can stay because cordell is the shit we just don't need lee pace mason verger]
Yes. One of—here. Watch me, I'll show you.
[Pfff like Hannibal has to ever say those two words to have Chilton's eyes on him but hey, he'll be nice. Look at him go, holding up that finger like he's demanding the attention of an entire room (when is he not come on children in Chilton's office step up to the show) as opposed to just Chilton (don't feel too special now). He pulls down the sleeve of his jacket so that when he runs his finger along the palm of his hand—thus cutting a line deep enough that blood can be easily seen—there's no chance it'll drip onto his clothes. Abigail already ruined one, why would he do it himself? But he just does it enough so that Chilton can pick up that he's bleeding, drags his next finger back over it, and bam.
Doctor Awesome.
Who is currently pulling out a handkerchief to get what little blood he drew off of him.]
Do you see now why surgery was the most logical choice?
no subject
Undeniably useful.
[Chilton cleared his throat, forcing himself to speak. The shock of the physics-defying healing was what disarmed him.
The gruesome display in of itself was a bit more titillating.]
How did you discover that? Under what circumstance, I mean -- was it just intuitive?
no subject
[He'll let Frederick think he means something along the lines of messing up slicing something and leave it there. Those poor children (run away, kids, that's right) don't get any heed from Hannibal, clearly fixated on his fine company across the screen. Watch me, he'd said, and Frederick hadn't looked away. Doing well so far, that Frederick Chilton. He deserves to feel like Hannibal only has eyes for him, at least for a little while.]
I put my hand to suppress the bleeding before I could find a towel, and it, well...I didn't need the towel afterwards for anything other than clean up.
It was an odd night. If you haven't discovered yours, it's only a matter of time. The wait is worth it.
