Requesting Characters!

It's been a while since we've done this, so — Merry Christmas, now let's make a case for the characters you are DYING to see at C&C.

I'll start: we should have the R A I N B O W   R A I D E R! His ~*space rock goggles*~ allow him to ride rainbows everywhere, or to bathe people in different color lights to affect their emotions. WHY ISN'T HE KICKING ASS AND TAKING NAMES IN BLACKEST NIGHT?? Goddamnit, DC! Read more about him. He can also drain colors out of people which is apparently like... idk, draining their powers... sort of... something, look, his powers make NO SENSE WHATSOEVER, let's not try to analyze them too hard.

Also do you think I should change this username? I don't know if I like it anymore.

ffffff I haven't read much of the new series anyway (the new Gentleman Ghost's resurrection is apparently tied into the convoluted crap of Cinnamon and all that that I honestly do not understand).

Which version would it be then? D: I thought GG was acquainted with almost every 'Hawk? --except...that weird one-off where he was alive and just a cat burglar.

Katar Hol is the first Post-Crisis Hawkman. He's actually an alien from Thanagar who came to Earth with his partner Hawkwoman Shayera Thal in pursuit of the asshole shapeshifter who set him up to kill his own father and got him sent onto a prison island for ten years. The original series was called Hawkworld back in the early 90s.

Carter Hall at the time was an old 40s JSA holdover - they'd teamed up a few times, learned to respect each other - Katar's father was responsible bringing Nth Metal to Earth back in the dizzy and what-not, so there were some connections - but then they had a really crappy crossover called Zero Hour where the two got merged into one and it sucked and was lame and full of retcons and made Hawk continuity stupid and annoying for everybody.

I like Carter Hall, but I'm much more familiar with Katar. And I did a whole huge plot elsegame once that involved GG completely messing with Katar like gangbusters, but I don't think they really crossed paths, since GG was much more a Carter enemy thanks to the long history of reincarnation and what-not...

Oh. Oh, man. I can't believe I didn't know any of that. ._. You learn something new every day...

Thanks for explaining it to me :3

Ain't no thang. Hawks need explaining.

I'd recommend checking out the first three Hawkworld books if you can. The following ongoing wasn't bad either, but plagued by super-shitty art. Then after 40 some issues or something it became Hawkman, which gave him a kinda neat black costume and eventually tried to shove him into the Carter Hall mode and it got weird. But it started out with a layer of cool involving Hawkwoman actually working as a spy against Katar because of seditious suspicions against the horrible regime of assholes on Thanagar and yeah. There ya go.

Guys with maces and hawk helmets and wings are cool. Plus he has a punchy blade.
