i agree that it'd be rad if a lady won best director already, and she's someone who has a pretty varied career full of things that aren't "girl movies". she won at the DGA and all the congrats from her peers were these ~hilarious~ backhanded sexist remarks so that's... great.

sofia coppola. a hundred potentially misplaced letters in that name. yeah, i'm generally very like FUCK YEAH GO TEAM whenever anyone of the female persuasion wins (or is even nominated though half the time that's got the frustrating OH I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE WITH THE TOKEN NOMINATION veneer to it), though with her personally i'm not into her work.
