So this week's Gotham City Sirens wasn't particularly well-written. However, this scene was pretty amusing anyway.

I had to share, of course.

Considering she paid a fortune to have the building remodeled, you think she'd have a nicer bathroom.
hexappeal: (cheesecake.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-02 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
All the time spent telling her to keep her away and she could've explained why.

IT'S NICE NOT HAVING ZEE IN THE TUB/SHOWER FOR ONCE, THOUGH.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Zee was like super dumb in this issue :/
hexappeal: (night must fall now.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-02 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
I love how Selina's first reaction is SHE MUST BE HERE TO HURT ME, too. Idefk.

Seconding the bathroom. At least get new wall tiles, gurl.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she was pretty OOC this issue too. I think everyone except Harley was and even she seemed overly dumb.
hexappeal: (you're precious.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-02 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
She looked cute, though.

[identity profile] bwhahahabeck.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with this 100%.
themysciran: (oh great hera what is that smell)

[personal profile] themysciran 2010-10-02 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
The art is unfortunate but this is definitely amusing.

still oh how I hate people being vague for the sake of the plot despite it being ooc

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
The art is the best it's ever been in Sirens :/
hexappeal: (:<)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-02 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
I actually like March's art. :( Even if it's cheesecake, he at least doesn't give them super-teeny waists and super-huge tits and everything.

[identity profile] supergabbie.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
/barges in uninvited

I like his art too, actually! I mean, most of the time. My major qualm with it is he's really bad at keeping character designs consistent... but it has more life to it than this art IMO.
hexappeal: (this ain't no disco.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-02 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
/INVITES YOU, YOU VAMPIRE

That's how I feel about Adam Hughes, tbh. I also think all of March's dudes kinda look ancient (I'm not a fan of his Riddler).

[identity profile] supergabbie.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
/VICTORY.

Ahaha Adam Hughes... I have so many feelings about him. So many feelings. Not all of them good. But yeah March's Riddler... I liked how he looked in the Riddler issue of Sirens, but he looked different every other time March drew him. What even. That annoys me so much in comic art. :[
hexappeal: (uhhhhhhhhhh.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-02 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same here. The worst part is, is that he's capable of drawing cute and sexy without TEENIEST WAISTS EVER or MANFACE. Sigh.

I like the colorist(s) March has, though. They're all really nice and soft. I'm a big fan of Tom Derenick, too, but I think he gets overlooked because he really gets stuck with some shitty inkers/colorists sometimes. I love how Reign in Hell turned out and though he did a lot for Shadowpact, it only seems like half of it looked really good (ignoring my dislike of June's new costume, of course).

[identity profile] supergabbie.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's certainly talented. I wish he utilized that talent better. SIGH.

I agree! His colorist is really nice. I like when they know what they're doing... otherwise I tend to be like god just go simpler if you don't know how shadows work. I really hate when artists get stuck with bad inkers or colorists because it's so hard to tell sometimes, and it reflects badly on the entire body of art. Like... there are some artists I really dislike, but seeing their stuff uninked made me realize it was mostly the inker they had that was awful. My favorite artists all have kind of simple styles that really make the most of the inking so I'm picky about lines, sob.
hexappeal: (pleased.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-02 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
I think Zatanna was the only one that got away easily with his busts. Pity the art didn't translate well, though. :/

Yeah, I like Rags Morales only sometimes, too (see: this icon), but his eyes tend to look really creepy if not handled well. Which is... almost always. Which really sucks since he's one of the few artists that don't have a very generic art style. My favorite artist ever (at least comic book wise) has gotta be the late, great Gray Morrow. Now he knew how to do cheesecake properly.

[identity profile] supergabbie.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of his art just kind of lacks in personality. Which is one of my major qualms with it. While I enjoy cheesecake, I think putting sexy before personality kind of... is an issue. BUT LMFAO THAT IS A RANT UNTO ITSELF.

I like Morales' style a lot, but yeah sometimes it looks weird. Not a lot in my opinion, but sometimes expressions just... are off. Be it the eyes or the mouth, for me. I kind of liken it to Mark Bagley and Jim Lee's style sometimes? All three remind me of each other... it might be the inking IDK?? but obviously each one has their own different strengths and weaknesses. He's great at unique faces, though. My favorites are like... haha, Marcos Martin, Javier Pulido, Darwyn Cooke, JRJR, Tim Sale, etc. (I HAVE OTHERS TOO BUT) who are all very line-dependent artists, I don't know why that's so visually appealing to me. Cheesecake-wise I always have to look at Bruce Timm, Dan DeCarlo, and Frank Cho.

[identity profile] tamerlane.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
I liked his sketches for Batgirl that I guess were all potential busts, even the one with the BOOBS SQUISHED AGAINST STONE, but I totally know what you mean. People do need to remember that a lot of them are commissions and people that are going to spend $1000+ on a Hughes commission usually are men and they're usually pervs that just want fap material. So I can excuse that a little. WE ALSO HAVE TO LAY SOME RESPONSIBILITY ON THE COMPANIES THAT GREENLIGHT SOME OF THAT SHIT AND TREAT IT AS TOTALLY OKAY.

Oh, definitely. Jim Lee's art can be a little weird sometimes because of inking (or coloring, like I loved all the art for the DCU Heroes online, but the coloring in them kills it for me).

My current favorites are: Cliff Chiang, Dustin Nguyen (though his faces do have the same problem of inconsistency), Dean Ormston, Dan Panosian, Justiniano, Ryan Sook (his art's really evolved in the past five years), Luca Rossi, and hnnngh Esao Andrews does the best covers. As for cheesecake, my favorite is definitely Gray Morrow (he also draws my favorite Zatanna (http://i54.tinypic.com/14v7al4.jpg)). Phil Noto also draws the only comic nudes I can tolerate/doesn't freak me the shit out.

[identity profile] supergabbie.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, it's definitely not ALL him -- his commissions are commissions, and the Batgirl sketches were cute... though how it redesigned for production was awful, ugh, and then you look at stuff like his How to Draw Women things and just make this face forever: 8|
BUT ANYWAY.

Some of his designs I'm not hugely fond of because... idk, they seem lifeless, but it's really not a frequent problem for me with his art. Because I mean. He's pretty talented.

Man I have so many. I'd link to the list I have on my journal except I haven't updated it in forever, I should go do that...

[identity profile] tamerlane.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I loved the drawing he did for Batgirl with the bat...thing, but then the statue just looked horrible and then one feminist (or two) blew it out of proportion and then the whole internet treated it like that. OH LAWD THAT HOW TO DRAW WOMEN...THING. I never know if I should laugh or scream. DON'T WORRY. SOMEDAY, SOMEDAY COMICS WILL BE FULL OF MEN IN SHORT SHORTS. This just makes me want to play Jimmy again and make this icon default for him. Just to even the playing field (aww yeah).

I do agree with that. They all sort of look vacant, but I feel that way about Ed Benes, too.

DO IT. Also, if you don't read House of Mystery, start. Just to skim through the art, even. hnnnngfffh I will never rec this enough to people

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'm mostly bothered by how CRAZY HUGE he makes Selina's goggles. Also the proportions look off to me sometimes.
hexappeal: (place where nobody knows.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-02 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
oh god, yeah. i mean, i think it's cute -- but not practical. they look really... idk. like they're made of actual glass? and of no use.

but yeah, even if it makes sense because everyone in the dcu is like 6' (i ignore it), they all still look like giantesses.
themysciran: (themyscira was destroyed again???)

[personal profile] themysciran 2010-10-02 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
...that's sad.:(

wait omg i think this is the same artist as that horrible JLA 90 sob

[identity profile] lassiface.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
well
lassi's intrigued

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Of course he is :D

[identity profile] batghoul.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... at least Cass isn't the only one that gets gratuitous naked scenes!

Also, I don't think the colorist knows how fishnets work.
hexappeal: (fishnets.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-02 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
don't you know

she wears tights under them so her legs stay warm

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Selina hasn't had any in a while, surprisingly.

[identity profile] foreverbouncing.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow that's some terribad dialogue right there.

I think if Zee had said something witty at the beginning when she appeared and Selina had slumped back down into the tub when she said 'great' the scene would probably work better but...ick.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole issue is that bad :/

[identity profile] godofnicehair.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
YEEEEEAAAAAH HILARIOUS CLINGING BUBBLES

[identity profile] origamiguardian.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, thanks for reminding me, I need to pick up my subscriptions!

Sad to hear the writing wasn't good. New writer?

Art isn't horrible. Better than all the hideous crotch shots going on in Birds of Prey (I like looking at pretty drawings of pretty ladies. Those are not pretty.) I like the artist gave Selina some muscles--I hate it when comic book women who are clearly supposed to be highly athletic are drawn with skinny, shapeless arms and legs.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It might be, I didn't remember the name, but I didn't go back and check either.

[identity profile] formidophobia.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Daaaamn she's buff

Also wait a second don't Zatanna and Catwoman usually get on better than this? I seem to remember they water-under-the-bridge'd the whole mind control thing.

[identity profile] foreverbouncing.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it depends on who is writing them.

[identity profile] formidophobia.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I know XD I was just wondering whether there was a recent incident that made Zatanna and Catwoman have renewed animosity or not

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to do a post of Gulacy art sometime. He drew her ;ike a female body builder some panels.

Like I said, bad writing :/

[identity profile] deathdeals.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
LMFAO GULACY LMFAKMMMASASASJASAJ

[identity profile] deathdeals.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm sorry all you had to say was gulacy and it instantly became hilarious

[identity profile] formidophobia.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I kinda like it >D

;; of course..

[identity profile] bedeviledspider.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
So, I have a question.

Does Zee regularly teleport into ladies' bathrooms uninvited or is this a one-time thing?

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It should be a regular thing, just for hilarity's sake.

[identity profile] bedeviledspider.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I support this.

Actually, I think she should do it to everyone. But especially Bruce. >_>
hexappeal: (it's business time.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-03 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
ngl, it's usually the other way around. In like, the past five years she has been in a tub/shower/just out of one about... four or five times? Which considering that she hasn't had her own series up until this point? That's a lot. :')

OH HEY MAGOG THANKS FOR STOPPING BY I'M JUST GOING TO ANSWER THE DOOR WITH A TOWEL HANGING LOW ENOUGH THAT YOU CAN SEE MY ASSCRACK

[identity profile] bedeviledspider.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my. Clearly, she needs to create some kind of Do Not Disturb spell.

NOTHING UNUSUAL ABOUT THAT, ISN'T THAT HOW EVERY WOMAN ANSWERS THE DOOR IN THE MAGICAL WORLD OF COMICS /arrrgh
hexappeal: (you can never have enough boobs.)

[personal profile] hexappeal 2010-10-03 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Or just in the tub to be in the tub.

THAT SERIES GOT CANCELED NOT LONG AFTER THAT, AT LEAST. WELL, MAYBE NOT AT LEAST. IT WAS KINDA SAD. IF THE ART/WRITING HAD BEEN BETTER, I'D HAVE READ IT REGULARLY. :(

[identity profile] bedeviledspider.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, are you suggesting a shower scene could... not be fanservice? That's crazy talk.

AW, I'M SORRY THE ART/WRITING KEPT YOU FROM PICKING IT UP. I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS :(

[identity profile] tamerlane.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
They are almost all written by Dini, WHAT A COINCIDENCE. Morrison writes her meditating in nothing but fishnets. Idefk.

YOU'RE TELLIN' ME. :(

[identity profile] bedeviledspider.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Written by Dini? WOW I AM SHOCKED. (I love Dini, but. But. Yeah.) Meditating in fishnets, yeah that... makes "perfect" sense. Nudity is the path to nirvana. Clearly I should have saved my meditation icon for this comment. idefk either. It's not that I mind cheesecake or even beefcake, just ugh. So annoyingly common.

IT IS THE BANE OF MY FANGIRLISH LIFE, TRUE STORY. :(

[identity profile] doubleoohbaby.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Bond thinks he had some lesbian porn that started like this...
