It seems DC Comics has teamed up with Nielsen NRG to get some actual stats on comic book readers. Maybe they'll realize that there actually is a female readership out there that they shouldn't alienate!

More info about the survey here for anyone who's interested. I already filled it out myself.

ETA: According to one blogger: "they threw in a fake title, “Nerak” among the new 52. Make sure you put “Hadn’t heard of it”, or else they may discount all of your answers. CONSTANT VIGILANCE!"

[identity profile] mindyourhealth.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
They told me I didn't qualify for their survey. Probably because I put 'didn't want and didn't buy' for just about everything save the ones I didn't know, and the Lantern stuff which is 'want but didn't buy'.

/shrug

They're looking for people who'll kiss their ass.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well later on they were asking for specific comments on what you read and if you would be rebuying certain titles, so a lot of the questions you need to have bought/read stuff to answer.

[identity profile] incywincyhero.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but they could also have asked questions about why a prospective reader didn't actually make the purchase -- you'd think that's the kind of data a media company faced with dwindling readership would want to have.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
True! But I think this is the same Nielsen who does the TV viewer ratings, so I guess I just think of them as... counting viewers really. IDK.

Very likely.

Very agreed! A "Why aren't you interested" is EXACTLY the sort of data they need to get the new market that they said they're looking for.

It's probably bad that I stared at "Nerak" for a good ten minutes before I realized it was fake. I tend to stick to certain parts of the universe, so I seriously thought it was a title I just missed.

It's be fantastic if they actually took all this into account; I'm glad a third party is running it.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
I was just "Why haven't I heard of that one?" and marked it as such and moved on.

I thought maybe it was a stone-age type thing like Turok >.>

I wrote like 4 paragraphs worth of opinions on the whole reboot and everything.

Then they told me I didn't qualify...

[identity profile] shadowinari.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea. I made sure to select that I'd "never heard of" the Nerak title. Other than that, I can't say. I made sure to say that I hadn't read/bought the titles that come out today as well.

I'm just going to second the idea that they only want people who say nice things about them instead of people who are trying to point out the weaknesses in their strategy.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I did say I bought the titles coming out today because they're on my pull list. And I had plenty of critique. IDK.

[identity profile] shadowinari.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they're mad because I said I probably wouldn't buy the next issue of Batgirl.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That wasn't even on the short list they gave me.

I just tl;dred for the better part of an hour at them. Plus the tiny pages loaded slowly. Here's hoping they actually read it though.

[identity profile] gatewhatgate.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I TL;DR'd a bunch and then got flummoxed at the "zip code".

Uh

I guess it's for Americans 'cause I have a postal code, which is six numbers not five.

(When they asked for a state for my LCS, I just picked a random one and then noted what I did in the text box later)

[identity profile] sh-consulting.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeeeeah that's what I did. :|

[identity profile] onteamvoldemort.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep dittoing the TL;DRed at them on my disappointment in the New 52. :|

[identity profile] he-is-wild.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I was pretty brief in my explanations of why I am disappointed and I said I wasn't interested in a LOT and I only bought two comics.

They processed me, though.

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Which two comics, out of curiosity?

[identity profile] he-is-wild.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Detective Comics and Animal Man.

The first because...well...

And AM because I'd heard good things. I probably would have also gotten Batwoman but I'm le broke.

[identity profile] ridiculouseyes.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It told me that I don't qualify. I THINK that may be because I haven't bought any comics, mostly because there's not a comic book store in my area. I might retake it using a different email address and just say that I bought the ones that I wanted to buy.

I still have opinions though. >| Somebody TL;DR for me.

[identity profile] broroona.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for posting about this, LB! I doubt they'll fully listen to it, but here's hoping!

Holding off on submitting it until I read Aquaman today, but already registering my disgust with Adam Glass and Batman #1 in shorthand. :c

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You didn't like Batman #1?
hacktivist: (Default)

[personal profile] hacktivist 2011-09-28 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
:c

my unpopular opinions let me show you them

bumping Dick back to Nightwing and keeping Batman Inc.?? makes no sense to me. I also think the mass 'arkham breakout' thing is overdone (and poorly done, this time) and most of the characters really sounded unbelievably blase (even Batman, the "You ready to do this?" to Joker was cringeworthy to me, and having Joker fistfight the Arkhamites doesn't do much to bring back his level to realistic, among them... which is another unpopular opinion I got.)

About the only one I liked the writing of was Harvey Bullock, and I don't see an entire universe reset as being worth that. 8<

[identity profile] meowminx.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That was Dick though, not the Joker.

I read Nightwing and I think it did a pretty good job convincing me that Dick preferred being Nightwing. He puts it as having his own identity rather than wearing Bruce's skin.

[personal profile] hacktivist 2011-09-28 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
oh I guess I didn't read it properly then

W E L P

I prefer Dick being Batman and Bruce being Batman, if they're keeping Inc in :c

SIGH

okay Aquaman #1 sucked too

I am not swayed by that gorgeous art
