It seems DC Comics has teamed up with Nielsen NRG to get some actual stats on comic book readers. Maybe they'll realize that there actually is a female readership out there that they shouldn't alienate!

More info about the survey here for anyone who's interested. I already filled it out myself.

ETA: According to one blogger: "they threw in a fake title, “Nerak” among the new 52. Make sure you put “Hadn’t heard of it”, or else they may discount all of your answers. CONSTANT VIGILANCE!"

So I'm not going to the comic book store until later.

But I was already spoiled on the ending of Catwoman #1.

And. Well.

...

I'm just going to link to the last page and let it speak for itself.

NSFW

ETA: The page before works a million times better. Aside from that nnnnngh bat-ear placement.

After all the talk of female creators in comics (or lack of) as of late, the Kickstarter for Womanthology just broke $101k with 4 hours left.

Booyah.

I just thought I'd throw this up quick since we have a lot of artists, writers and comic fans in the comm...

Womanthology is an all-female comics anthology that's been getting a fair amount of press for its Kickstarter campaign. There are 140+ contributors, both unpublished talent and some pretty well-known names (Gail Simone, Ann Nocenti, Fiona Staples, Ming Doyle, etc etc etc). All profits will be going to charity, which is why they need a Kickstarter even though IDW is publishing it.

Since the pledges have already blown past the amount needed to print the anthology, the organizer (Renae De Liz who did the art for The Last Unicorn comic) is looking at doing a second volume most likely with both male and female contributors. There is a secondary creator list being put together here both for a future volume and in case any contributors for Womanthology have to step down for whatever reason. Just wanted to share for all the writers and artists here who are interested in doing comics to have a chance to throw their names in too :)

There's also a couple pledge spots in the Kickstarter to have your art portfolio reviewed by the Editor in Chief of IDW Publishing. $100 IS cheaper than going to SDCC, I suppose...

Some Batman news here. Looks like Bruce is the only Batman and Robin is... Damian! I wonder if he'll still be Talia's kid.

Also:

Batgirl cover (no more Oracle?)
Nightwing cover (looks more like Dick than Jason to me...)
Catwoman cover (yay!)

Discuss/rant/etc?

OKAY SO BATMAN & ROBIN #23 came out and Jason is in it

and I think we all know that Jason has red hair now, right, thanks to Morrison blithely cherry picking details out of pre-crisis canon

NONE OF THESE PICTURES CONTAIN MAJOR SPOILERS BTW

but did you know Jason has chronic trollface now

he is a viking with trollface

he is LOOKING DIRECTLY OUT OF THE COMIC BOOK AT YOU

...

but so anyway this is my new PB made for me by my friend Claire.

THANKS CLAIRE

YOU'RE A TRUE FRIEND ALWAYS

HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS, GUESS WHAT TOMORROW IS?? or i guess technically today huh i need to be up kinda soon to get the good shit now.

that's right it's FREE COMIC BOOK DAY.

'but zero!' you newbies cry. 'i have never been to free comic book day! this sounds too good to be true!'

well okay, it kind of is. you don't get to waltz into stores and pick up comics for free. BUT there are a ton of comics that companies put out for free for today as advertisements! so you get free comics, and these companies get new potential readers, and everyone benefits!

so tomorrow/today, go to your local comic book shop. pick up something you have never heard of, since it's free, and find out something new! hells, that's how i found out about some of my now-favourites.

AND THEN SCAN THEM IN AND REPORT BACK, BECAUSE EACH STORE ONLY LETS YOU HAVE THREE AND I WANT THEM ALL. ALL OF THEM.

HI GUYS RANDOM QUESTION.

If I were to try to start a decent DC dressing room of some kind, would you use it?
➔ BUT JILLI, AREN'T THERE A BILLION OF THESE?
No, there are like... 3.5, all of which either aren't really used (to the best of my knowledge! please correct me if I am wrong!) or are infamously terrible.

➔ Why not try to revive one of the existing non-sucking ones?
Well, er, I don't know who runs those. Sorry...

➔ Why only a DC dressing room?
I dunno, I guess it could be all comics! But there are a few of those, too. Don't wanna step on any toes.

➔ WHO ASKED YOU TO MOD OH JESUS
No one did shut up I realize I'm not. Awesome. At modding. Due to a fundamental lack of tact, kindness, patience, etc. But someone else could always do it! I'm really just broaching the subject.
What always annoys you about dressing rooms? What kind of differences would you like to see if this did happen? How much setting/what kind of theme would you like? What kind of rules?

... and what would you name it.

AKA "make GDS decide my reading choices."

[Poll #1669062]

Heeeeelp there's a really good comics store just a few blocks away from my house, this is the result.

So I read this thing about Captain America promoting suicide prevention.

Now, since I'm actually a real live therapist when I'm not busy pretending to be a robot, this is kind of Relevent To My Interests. I'm also the first person to admit that this is the most attention I've paid to Captain America in...well...ever.

Those of you who actually read and/or give a crap about comics: What do you make of this?

(Also, this post is entirely too serious for GDS, and for that I apologize profusely. :P)

Yeah I got this with my comics yesterday. "Impactful"? Seriously, Marvel?

1. Post your characters.
2. People respond with made-up words describing your characters.
3. Shut up it's 11:37 the day's almost over without a meme and I'm drunk anyway do you know how much backspacing over typos I've done let's just do this.

In the grand tradition of HELP ME CHOOSE MY NEXT CHARACTER, I am here with vague descriptions, a poll, and actual descriptions under a cut.

SNABBY SHOULD NEXT PLAY:

1) A grown-up, British version of a Midford Cuckoo who likes listening to people, trying to get them to fight less, and writing things down. I LIKE DARK-HAIRED MEN, APPARENTLY.

2) A grown-up, British version of a Midford Cuckoo who likes pretending she's a doctor and is actually pretty good at it, and explaining to people why they are idiots. HOLY SHIT A FEMALE CHARACTER WHAT.

3) A man who is a walking server for an immersive virtual reality who would rather be a place than a person. SKINNY WEIRD MEN, MAYBE WE COULD HAVE MORE OF THOSE TOO.

4) ...Lord how do I even describe Lynne. A young technophile from a crazy-ass culture who was raised as a girl and has some complicated identity issues because of it. HE TRIED TO KILL HIS FATHER BY INJECTING HIM WITH BATTERY ACID AND FAILED. He's fun.

The day after Yami starts trolling GDS with Doctor Strange, Marvel posts this video.  I'm pretty sure it's a sign.

Also!  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Okay guys this is a serious question and I need as much participation as possible, as someone's grade is on the line here:

Give me heroes that wear underwear outside their costume.

Alternately, heroes whose costume is underwear in general.

SPAM I need your help. I'm back in a comics mood and have read many things this weekend. In my reading travels, I have discovered things that I am in need of answers for...

Mainly. These two images.

FIRST OF ALL and perhaps the most important question:

See that third panel from the bottom? The one where Danny is getting a dollar for Luke? This leads to my first question.
WHERE DOES DANNY KEEP HIS MONEY WHILE HE IS IN COSTUME?
